2003 civic ex sedan brake slips

My brakes are slipping when I use them, it feels like they aren't catching as good as they once were. I am an idiot what is the problem? if its brake pads can I just replace them myself?

When you press the brake pedal, does it go it lower to the floor than in the past?

did you just change the pads? new pads take a while to break in and can be a bit scary at first cause they are not bedded in properly. so only some of the pad is contacting the rotor. if the brakes feel mushy at the pedal, it could be a leak in the line. check your brake fluid.

the brake doesn't go to the floor, would a picture or short video help? I don't know when the pads were last replaced. It might be the fluid let me look at that.

they squeak sort of, so I though that the indicator was telling me to change them. I live in the city and have to drive to my aunts in west texas to do all my car work. Its tough for me to diagnose most if not all problems as I am not a car type.

Re: 2003 civic ex sedan brake slips

If your brake pedal doesnt go to the floor but your brake power is shitty then you can narrow it down to the pads rotors in the front and the drums and shoes in the rear. When you pull your park brake up does it click alot (12+ times) or does it click around (6-8) before they lock up? If it clicks too many times they need to be adjusted or replaced. Take a look at the front pads and rotors and if they look worn down and the rotors look like they have grooves and whatnot replace or resurface them, and change the pads. Dont forget to clean regrease your slide pins. (Very Important)
