93 dx shaking while cornering
93 dx shaking while cornering
i've noticed a issue i believe is in the front end, maybe someone may know what it is;
While cornering there is a vibration/shake in the steering wheel, and can be felt throughout the car, it vibrates worse with speed... its rythmatic and also can be heard. On the highway above 70 mph there is an intermittent vibration every 3 secs or so.
I've tried to diagnose the problem, and think i've narrowed it down to the tranny, particularly where the cv joints connect to the tranny. there is about 3/8" movement up and down NOT in and out. From this i assume when the cv joints are rotating they are causing the vibration due to being off balance, thus becoming worse while turning and explains why it vibrates more with speed.
Is this a differential issue? if so, is this a diy job?
The car is a 93 civic Dx 1.5L 5spd manual, my previous was a 92 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution I which i did some mechanical work on, so i have some mechanical experiance.

Re: 93 dx shaking while cornering
If you have a ripped cv boot that can explain the problem. Possibly need to rebuild or replace your axle. It can be dangerous so make sure to take care of that ASAP. Also check your lower ball joints and lower control arm bushings.
Re: 93 dx shaking while cornering
i have some updated news,
my girl friend was the previous owner of the car, and last year she was hit from behind on the passenger side at approx 50 Km/h, also caused her to bump into the car in front on her passengers side
Last weekend i took off the rear bumper to discover that the bumper bar had been crushed and detached on the passenger side, so i took off the front as well. The front was'nt near as damaged, but i noticed the front support bracket (one directly in front of the radiator) had been pushed in about 1/4 to 1/2 inch on the passeger side as well. So i looked a little harder, i noticed before the hood wasnt lining up, and now i notice the passenger front fender is slightly higher than the hood (3/16 inch) and the trunk does not sit correctly on the drivers side.
I suspect some frame damage, maybe this has cause the front end to not be lined up correctly causing the shake and vibration. Any comments?

Re: 93 dx shaking while cornering
So upon searching around, i came across a thread from this site that explained how to check for front end straightness, read https://www.civicforums.com/forums/7...can-i-fix.html
from this i did my own measurements, my car is off by about 1/2 inch. Think i can straighten it myself?
Although like i said the radiator support bracket is pushed in Almost exact to the cross measurements, i'm a little baffled?! >(
