Car doesn't start...
Car doesn't start...
I tried to start the old girl the other day and she wouldn't start. It will turn over but it just won't start. Fuel pump is working. I thought it was the fuel filter, so I replaced that and she's still not running. Any other suggestions of things I could try?
Thanks

6th generation? Common thing is the fuel pump relay, they replacing that or seeing if it's getting power to it. And even if the fuel pump is coming on and the filter is clean, it doesn't mean it's actually sucking fuel through, it could still not be getting power. This happened to me on a Cavalier, pump was fine, filter was fine, it just wasn't getting suction so we replaced the whole unit and it was perfect.
But my bet is the relay, seems to be the problem every time.

It is getting spark too, by the way, I checked that
Well, my friend and I were replacing the filter and we forgot to put one of the washers on and I clicked the ignition to the on position......and we had a gasoline fountain in the engine bay
I'm pretty sure it's getting fuel

check compression. is fuel actually getting thru the fuel injectors? sometimes they can be clogged or not produce a mist, which will cause problems starting.

Re: Car doesn't start...
compression tester is $40 at the store, or a shop can do it. each cylinder should be around 130-160 psi and all four cylinders need to be consistent like between 5 psi of each other. if one is low, theres your problem and the motor will need rebuilding. fuel injectors are much trickier, since usually you need to get new ones or send the old ones away to be cleaned and blueprinted.

My dad came out the other day and fixed her in 2 minutes. He looked under the hood, saw 2 wires weren't clipped together all the way, and ta-da! she's fixed.
Here's a picture of the clip that wasn't fastened. Can anybody tell me what that thing is in the second picture?

the big round thing is prolly cruise control module. you can see a throttle cable coming out the left side. not sure what that plug is for tho, could be anything.
Re: Car doesn't start...
Interesting, seeing as the cruise control doesn't work...yet when that clip on there was unplugged, the car wouldn't start...
Anyways, thanks, I was just curious
