Clutches on the A/C pump wont engauge
Clutches on the A/C pump wont engauge
I just got a new/used A/C pump which is good it was tested before I bought it. I put it in and when I turn the A/C on in the car the clutch wont engauge. So I figured that since there wasnt any freon in the system there was a pressure sensor keeping the clutch from kicking on. Come to find out there is a computer that runs the A/C pump. What is that computers correct name. Please dont tell me its the ECM, cuz those arent cheap.
Also does anyone have the wiring schematics for an 02 honda civic ex??? Because there are only three wires on the scandan A/C pump. Which leads me to beleive that one wire is positive one is negative and one wire is the wire that turn a relay on and off to power the clutches.
Please Help. If it was my car I would just say heck with the A/C but its my wifes so it needs to get fixed.

Re: Clutches on the A/C pump wont engauge
Thanks I will give that a shot. Are there any more pages that go with that PDF? The first page seems like I am starting in the middle of the procedure. Also do you have page 22-65 so i can test my AC clutch relay?
Thanks

The procedure for the clutch starts at the bold lettering on the right and continues.
I attached the pages for the relay test procedure.

Re: Clutches on the A/C pump wont engauge
I guess I should have started at the begining.
Last year about this time my fiance was heading home to see her parents about 400mi away. She got 4hrs away and called me saying her battery light had come on and she smelled somthing burning. I said pull over and call me back. She pulled over got her flash light out and I said is there a flat belt on the right hand side or are there peices. Well there were pieces.
What had happened was the A/C clutch seized up and wore through the serpentine belt. So this was all on a friday night at 10pm so I jumped in my truck drove down put it on a trailer brought it back and since it was a weekend I couldn't get the A/C pump so I put a smaller serpentine belt on sealed up the A/C hoses with tape so dirt wouldn't get in and sent her on her way. Well a year goes by I forget it needs a A/C pump until it start to get warm out and she reminds me. So I put a used A/C pump on that had been test and was in good working order and it came off a 02 with 60k miles. I installed it and couldn't get the clutch to engage. So I started googling and found that if the driver side fan wasnt coming on there was a fuse problem. It never occurred to me that there would be a fuse for the AC so I checked it and sure enough it was blown. Still the pump wouldn't engage so I found there was a relay in the fuse box under the hood. Had no way of checking it except for it was the same as the horn relay so I swapped them since I knew the horn worked, and the pump still wouldn't engage. So that is were I am now.
Sorry for the book. But now you know exactly what I know.
