brake issues ...

Okay, here the problem.... my brakes have very little pressure, enough i can stop, but rarely lock up the tires on dry pavement. When i replaced my pads/shoes i bled the brakes accordingly and they worked great for a few weeks (slightly squishy but i was told that was normal), after those few weeks, i then bled them again, thinkin thier may still be some air in the lines, and thier was none in any of the 4. so i then decided to check my pads/shoes,and thier was lots of "meat" left on all pads/shoes, the shoes were slightly glazed so i sanded them some, but it made no difference. lastly i checked for any leaks, did not see any nor have i been leaving wet spots anywhere, and my res is full. now what ever the problem is, its not broken, just weak, my brkes have been like this for a few months now and they have not seemed to get any worse, and on the up side i dont think my pads/shoes are wearing very fast haha, but it takes very little effort to make the brake pedal hit the floor and i alos noticed that my emergency brake is the same as normal brakes.... i tightened it a few days ago, its tight at 3 clicks, and it takes a professional wrestler to make it go 4 clicks, which i did, and it still wont hold car. so ... a little help please, i did some searching and didnt really find anything i hadnt already checked..... are thier any common problems with our cars they other have dealt with before i should check? thanks

What made you think master cylinder before booster? Years ago the booster on my land cruiser went out and the pedal would basically go to the floor. Same kind of thing Nate was talking about.

Re: brake issues ...

Sometimes you can hear a swooshing sound if the diaphragm on the brake booster has gone bad after u push the pedal.

Doesn't sound like it is making any noise. It is acting exactly like it needs to be bled very bad but I have and no air comes.

I had the same problem too, and was told it was the master cylinder in a Mazda MPV.

Re: brake issues ...

humm... id say sence your Ebrake is not working also + its very tight. u have a lockedup break piston. i have had this issue but only on a old 4x4 mudtruck.
most cases if one piston is locked be it the front or back it will cause the other side to also not work. if your parkbrake dont work and its tight + loads of Meat on the pad.... its not engaging is my bet. Recheck bolth left and right in the back make sure thay are working P.S. check break lines for bulging.

Re: brake issues ...

checked the pistons... they seem to all working. it has never shown any signs of piston lock either, never had a wheel lock or make the noise of sliding pads. This is really confusing. i re-checked my bases again today. the pads have about 80% and the shoes are 70% left on them. the rotors in the front are cross drilled brembo rotor and the pads are metallic based menroe pads. i can make the brake pedal touch the floor anytime i want and with ease. The pedel has pressure behind it but not enough to stop me from touching the floor. i jammed the brakes on fry pavement and the car will not lock the wheels, just slow down. i have no a.b.s.. I tightened the emergency brake, no human on earth could get the e-brake handle to go past 4 clicks right now, and at 4 clicks the car will still roll slowly making the typical noise brakes amke when ur car slides with them enguaged. So the e-brake si working just not holding the car.... i doubt all 4 pads/shoes could be bad at the same time and still have lots of meat on them. I also took the pads and shoes off and sanded them along witht he rotors and drums to eliminate any chance that " glazing " is the problem. It made no difference. I have not checke dthe booster or MC yet, mainly because i do not know how to check them without buying a new one and replacing them. As i said, the lines have no air in them and res is full. I will check them again shortly. Any other ideas are welcome. thank you
