02 civic tranny issue
so i have a 2002 civic coupe. ex i believe bought not sure and a 5 spd. i bought the car from my parents just so i could have a car. i learned to drive standard on it as well as my older brother. so there was a point the clutch wasn't treated the best. but for the past year theres been no grinding or dropping. then about a month ago i realized then shifting into 3rd has become horrid.
if i shift into 3rd casualy then theres no problems.
but when i shift quickly/more aggressivly, it sound and feels as if its grinding through. feels disgusting.
has nothing to do with how i press in the clutch. it's always to the floor. even if i'm just parked, i push in the clutch, and as i shift to 3rd gear with any quickness, it grinds.
i don't exactly know why, but i would like to fix this problem at some point.
thanks in advance
chris

Re: 02 civic tranny issue
if your parked and u shif yes it's expected to grind a little. the gears are spinning still after u push in the clutch.
i started having the 3rd gear grind. i changed the trany fluid and that has fixed it so far. no more grinding yet.
make sure u put in honda manual trany fluid or MTF. dont get gear oil. this will help out bigtime. (at least it did for me)
EDIT woo 300th post

Re: 02 civic tranny issue
Try a synthetic fluid, I've had issues with other cars in the past, synthetic won't 'fix' the problem, but it will make it much better. It might take a few days of normal driving to notice a difference.
Re: 02 civic tranny issue
Sounds like the Brassbearing.
Either way. Try changing your oil. If that doens't work. Drop the Tranny. If it's too much for you to take a peek inside. Get a used Tranny and replace it.
I swear. What was honda thinking in these years? We have to have the worst transmission ever!
