is this turbo usefol for my d17?
Hi,
im new here,
been driving around for about a year with i/h/e setup,
but kinda getting bored of this...
so i was thinking, why not boosting?
I have the following turbo just laying around at my garage,
but can't really tell if i can use this one for my D17 engine?
The hp goal is about 180-190whp, just a pretty street setup,
cause it's my daily...
here are some pictures with measurement (everything is in milimeters, not inches, if wanted i can convert it to inches...)

Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
i think dont quote me on this its a TC05 Turbocharger 85-88 Mitsubishi Cordia 1.8L from what i found... ur gunna need that manifold or make a custom manifold, to trouble for a old turbo get a ebay kit junk the manifold it brings and try running that, if not go all out www.dezod.com
Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
yeah, it is a tc05 turbo indeed,
making a custom manifold seems a bit big for a first time,
and was already thinking to junk a ebay manifold as a testing purpose
do you think it will be worth the effort using this turbo?

Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
honestly not really worth it i guess if it was new but its old and its a mitsu turbo i had dsm 2 turbos kept going...shaft play i blame its age not the turbo
Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
i guess an ebay kit much easier to get look at what ebay is selling t3 setups if its blow then whatever change it Try looking at www.dezod.com to see the setups they sell use that as a guide to what you will need then ebay some stuff if you arent to serious about to much power considering you want about 180hp shouldnt be to hard
Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
emanage.. which is for tuning and making sure your car runs correctly with the new flow of air and more fuel being used look up on this forum the FAQ Turbo set ups There are other things you can use but thats the most common that i can think of at the moment
Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
looking at this kit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-05...mZ380074947805
is it something that would be useful for me? or just junk?
or
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-U...mZ250312258202
been looking at the emanage faq, but that's really chinese for me :O

Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
Id go with the first one just change the couplers with better ones in the future that should be just fine for bolt on kits. You should reach close to your goal t28 is fine you can always change in the future the pipings fine you can keep that same with the intercooler. I dont know why ebay kits get bad reps of course its no dezod kit but it gives you the most important parts for some fun

Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
i was wondering how good r our motors?? can they hold boost wit stock internals.. can they hold on boost wit no problem?? just bolting it right on?? and if so how much power can u get out of it witout blowing??
Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
Yeah tell me 350+ whp is easy once you get there. I'm pretty sure you will eat those words the longer you have that ebay kit. Been there, done that.
A mitsu turbo will work if you can get it bolted up to a manifold, it would likely be cheaper to find another turbo. If you are asking these questions, take your time planning and especially learning how OBD2 ECUs work. Bolting it together is only half the battle.

Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
im not at 350 not even close. im running my own kit that i put together and put on of ebay. but all i need is LC pistons, rods, injectors, kpro, and a good tune and i could be making 350+
all i need is money=(

If any one is interested I have a mitu turbo t25/t28 flanged. It is a garrett. It is the td05h basically a t25.
-holds 300hp
- water cooled
-3 bolt exhaust outlet
If anyone is interested shoot me a pm for pics. Ill let it go for cheap since Im using a little bigger turbo.

Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
Thats like saying if I put a 300 shot on my built engine I COULD be making 600+whp. My point was everyone thinks its easy to make all kinds of numbers because they see someone else do it. Actually getting the **** together to do something is much more of a challenge than picking out parts in a catalog and planning a build.
Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
well it depends on your mechanical abilities... for me everything i did to my car so far was easy.... so maybe for you it wasnt but for me it was a task but still easy
Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
Do you have any idea who I am or what I am capable of? Any of the OG members have at least an few onces of respect for what I have done for the 7th gen community. You think because you bolted on a $2 ebay turbo kit that you know something? Build a car by hand, build me a full tube chassis, a hand made intake manifold, try designing a manual timing belt tensioner conversion that works flawless because the custom cam that Brian Crower cut you is so big that the belt slacks up every time you run the motor. I wipe my *** with bolt-ons, so dont get sarcastic with me.
Re: is this turbo usefol for my d17?
I will eventually figure out what I am doing. I got to get one of those car modding for dummies books, it has all the answers. I hate to put up those "modest" posts seeing as I am usually a pretty humble dude, but people toss out numbers on the 7thgen forums like its nothing to see 350+ whp D17s. You know and I know what it takes as well as a select few others. Its alot more respectable for someone to look down from the peak of a mountain and say the climb was nothing, than too look up and say its going to be a cakewalk.
