Distilled water instead of type 2 coolant?

Hi,

My coolant level is on the min mark and i can't get the recommended type 2 coolant (not even at the dealer)!

I live in a tropical country where the temperature never gets below 63F.

Will it do any harm if i top up the coolant reservoir to the max mark with distilled water, instead of topping up with honda type-2 anti-freeze coolant?

What i understood is that honda coolant contains 50% water and 50% anti-freeze. But in my country, the temperature is warm year round (never comes close to freezing). So, in my case, do i really need that honda type 2 coolant?

Well, from what I know, the chemical "anti-freeze" changes the property of water to also have a higher boiling point. I believe the more you dilute the coolant, the more likely it will bring the boiling point closer to that of water, which is 100 degrees Celsius.
I think your engine gets hotter than that...which means you would have the water boiling off and out of the cooling system, which would not be good.
I guess you can use it in a pinch, but you should flush out your cooling system and refill it with the 50/50 stuff asap.

According to wikipedia, it also inhibits corrosion in the cooling system itself.

just find a dealer with coolant, or even get some from the auto parts store. these days the coolant can mix with any other type in any car. even says on the bottle. it all has the same ingredients.

NO............only use honda type 2 blue coolant!!!! The water pump seals love this stuff.....do not put the green stuff in & do not dilute it. The coolant comes pre-mixed. You just pour it in. $20 bucks a jug though!
