Question Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

Wow. I've had such good luck with my '01 despite others that have had trouble. I usually don't have to post in here, but here is my issue:

SRS light on. Dealer says there is a sensor or a switch or something in the buckle that tells the SRS system if your seat belt is on. My only guess is that the airbag will not go off if you aren't wearing your seatbelt?

So they quoted me a new buckle and labor at $270.00!! That doesn't include the $90 to diagnose the light!

This is the drivers side buckle. I looked on ebay and found a bunch of rears and passanger ones, but nothing really for front driver. Just one auction that ends in 5 days. The part number the dealer gave me is 04816-S50-A02ZE. I can't find that part number anywhere.

Can anyone verify that part number or find the correct one? Anyone know of a place to get the buckle for less than dealer?

Remember it's this SRS switch thing that is broken, so I'm not sure if that is actually in the buckle or if it's something attached to it?

Anyone?

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

Got this from searching with 5spd 01' civic.
Hope this helps. The part number they gave you seems to be wrong, ask them for it again.

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

The belts and the buckles should be covered for the life of the vehicle.

Since you have been to the dealer and have diagnosis, call Honda and ask them about the extended coverage and for help with a safety issue.

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

Yeah, I tried calling the guy out on the lifetime seatbelt warranty, but he said that they are only covered if the belt wont latch. That's a good call though, I'm going to call honda and tell them about it. It is a safety issue. Without this buckle working normally my airbags wont go off during a crash and that is not a good thing.

Yeah I found that too, but it's almost like I need #5, or the number that could be #1, or #4, or maybe 14? Hard to tell.

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

Ok. I just got off the phone with Honda. She opened a case for the regional guy to look into it. So I'm supposed to be getting a call back in the next couple days.

This is actually a good thing, the last time I called Honda things got done, so hopefully that is the case here again.

Kinda weird calling customer service for your car, but it should get some stuff rolling here.

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

doesnt matter if it doesnt buckle, if its a problem with the seatbelt they replace it under the lifetime warranty that all seatbelts have....the dealer or you shouldnt have to contact anyone. They are jerking you around

i have replaced numerous buckles and belts at my honda dealer for free because of the lifetime warranty...if they still want you to pay for it i can get you a printout directly from honda saying its lifetime warrantied

The diagnostic fee I can almost understand. Young punks like me are probably in there every damn day with a SRS light on, because they jacked with something on their car and tripped it.

However. . . That being said, when Honda of America calls back, I assume to tell me they talked to the dealership whom has agreed to replace this at no charge, I will mention to them the $94.00 diagnostic fee that I paid and see if I can get it refunded. If not I'll shoot for half of a refund. After all I am having to go out of my way to bring the car back in a 2nd time.

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

I did this with mine when i bought it and have never seen that light again!

Link: http://forums.clubel.ca/showthread.p...144#post155144

This is for the Acura EL 1.6 97-00...possibly the 1.7
Helpful if you blew your Airbag fuse or replaced your steering wheel/seats(1.7). If you own a 1.7, try the procedure from the link provided on the ClubRSX website since the chassis and electronics are more similar to the RSX than the 1.6

Ok, so basically, I had this stupid light on for about 3 months...occured when I accidentally blew the fuse, and the replaced it and nothing happened. I did a bunch of research, and there wasn't much for the Civic/EL. But after a few weeks, I came across a ClubRSX site, and was just browsing when I came across this post :
http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread...ight=srs+light
So all credit on this goes to KSMatic, since 90% of this write up is his, except a few procedures and the pictures are his aswell. At first, I wasn't sure it would work since it was for a 02+ RSX, but actually there are simularities, and the procedure is quite similar. The plug is the exact same, aswell, I figured it all out from spending countless hours studying the FSM.

DISCLAIMER: Please do this at your own risk, i am not responsible for any damages that you may cause by doing this SRS DIY reset. If you do not trust yourself, please take the car to Acura Dealership and have them reset it for you, Warranty will normally cover for reset. Try this DIY at your own risk.

Note: If you have problems with your SRS, the light will not reset with this DIY.

Tools Material Needed:
- Standard Paperclip (or wire)

Here it is:
(I used pictures from KSMatic from the Club RSX website, since I don't have a digicam, but the plug looks the same so you guys are set...)

First make sure your key is out of the ignition

1: Step 1: You need to prepare the standard paperclip so you can use it to reset the SRS light.

2: Twist your paperclip to make it in to this shape, it will make your life a lot easier to plug in and out of the SRS clip.

3: Remove the bottom panel under the dash, and you will notice the fuse box, along with the fuses all in there. You will have to look above that for the plug.

Locate the SRS plug above the fuses, you will see the yellow clip, this is your SRS clip. (only thing thats yellow in the fuse box)

4: Locate the SRS plug above the fuses, you will see three yellow clips, these are your SRS clips. The clip you are looking for is on the top right of that panel. You will know which one it is, because only 2/3 have two wires connecting to it, and the one you are looking for has the same distinctive shape as the one in the picture. Also, the one you aren't suppose to use is bigger, and a lot trickier to pull out.

5: Unplug the clip. You should see two pin holes. (keep car off at this time)

6: Plug the paperclip in to the 2-pin clip.

7: At this point, place the key in and click to the Ingition On position II

8. You should hear beeps for 3 seconds, and when the beep is gone, the SRS should turn OFF. (make sure the clip is firmly pushed in the plug. The actual metal pick up for it is a bit deeper in there, so you can't just rest you paper clip on the metal parts outside the clip.) After about 3 seconds, the SRS light will return, even if the paperclip is in, so remove the paperclip when the light returns.

9. Wait about 2-3 seconds after the SRS comes back, and then jam the paperclip back in(ignition remains the same). You should see the SRS light go OFF again.

10: Once again, the light will do the same thing, so it will turn ON after 3 seconds, so you must remove the paperclip before the light turns on, so before 3 seconds of the light going on.

11: Wait about 10-20 seconds after the light comes back on, and put the paper clip in again. You should see the SRS light turn OFF. At this point, you should turn off the car and put the clip back into it's socket.

12: When you turn the car on again, the SRS light should be off. When turning on your car, the light goes on for the 3 seconds in which the car blinks(SRS performs a tests on the airbags) and then turns off once everything is ok.

Congratulations, you have successfully reset your SRS light.

Troubleshoot:

On step 11, if your light flashes Once and remains on, you will need to get your sensors check. Please check all wires on Chairs, side, front and rear sensors. Best to take it to Acura to get them replaced under warranty because it will cost more than you bargained for.

Remember to have a firm connection with the paperclip, if anything, you may have to repeat steps 6 to 12 again..

For people that have aftermarket/Non-Airbag Seats, please read this guide to bypass the SRS light issue: http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread...ermarket+seats

i hope it helps the pics arent there for some reason but you can go to google an type in resetting the srs for 01 civic and you can find it easily!

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

Hello again, thanks for the reset information. I knew I could reset it, but honestly I want the airbags to work and work properly.

I don't really want to do a bypass or anything. I really just want my belt fixed and the SRS system to work like it's supposed to..

In any case. Honda America called today and said that they are going to fix it under warranty. They are having the dealership call me to set up a time to bring it in and replace it.

I figured they would. They don't want someone to die in a Honda because they wouldn't fix the seatbelt/srs system. Bad rep, ya know?

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

Just popping in to update. The dealership still hasn't called me. The Honda America guy is supposed to be following up this afternoon to see if everything has been resolved.

Man, my regular dealership has really gone downhill.

They call 4 times and leave 4 messages to tell me my car is done when I take it in for an oil change, but something like this they have to be bothered and bothered until something gets done.

I hope I get a survey.

Re: Belt Buckle Jacked up, SRS tripped.

Ok guys, just to not leave this thing hanging. As you know I ended up calling Honda America.

Honda America said the dealership would be contacting me to set up a time to install.

Of course they never did, just sent me a postcard a week later saying my part was in.

So I called them, set up the appointment and finally got the car in and got the buckle replaced, and the SRS light reset.

Cost me $90 for the original diag, but I didn't have to pay the $270.00 they quoted me to replace the buckle.

Anyways. All better now, just pissed I had to go through so much.
