Measuring the front struts? v.50or55mm

Got a bit of an odd problem here.

I went with Ground Control/Koni setup back in 2002. My EM2 is an 02 as well. I have no recollection of the front strut size.

I have looked everywhere in my garage and can only find my original rears And of course, only the box for the rear Konis. I cannot find the invoice, despite having saved every receipt for every modification on my vehicle meticulously in a file cabinet.

Given that I have GC/Koni setup on the car now, how do I go about measuring the fronts? The GC sleeve covers all of the Koni...

I am coming to the realization that I might have to dissassemble the fronts to measure... Anyone have any ideas about measuring before I do so?

Kinda long winded for a simple fix All you need is a set of electronic calipers then go outside and measure it.

Should only have to jack the car up to measure. I think? Anyone?

Maybe I am missing something...

Where exactly am I measuring?

I jacked the car up today, and the coilover sleeve covers the Koni housing...

You measure the diameter of the Koni. You should be able to wiggle it in between the spring.

I thought we were measuring the housing itself(ie: the yellow exterior of the canister) not the shaft?

I never said anything about the shaft, but you should have some of the yellow piece showing don't you? What springs do you have on there? Can you take a pic so I can circle where to measure?

I'll jack it up again today at lunch and get back to you with a pic. I have the standard 6", 2.5" ID Eibach springs.

When I did it yesterday I didn't see any yellow poking out (albeit, it was rather dark in the parking garage).

Re: Measuring the front struts? v.50or55mm

Well... It turned out to be darkness coupled with dirt that obscured the view of the strut housing. Although, the amount sticking out that you have to work with is rather small. I had to pull the fender liner off to get a good measurement.

They ended up being 55mm.

Thanks for the help all.
