Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
does this mean all teh crower rods for d17's are made incorrectly and all teh rods people have bought are faulty or not made to teh correct sizing needed?

can ya do me a favor and at least TRY to spell the easy words right. You almost gave me a seizure. As far as the rods, PM triz, I know he was messing with their springs too, maybe he did the rods as well. I find it hard to beleive that crower sells a whole rob/spring/retainer kit for our engines and it is WRONG. I would expect that from ebay lol.

Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
You have to run an aftermaket slug. chances are.... the height difference has been accounted for in the piston. With the slug on it, the assembly comes out a little below the deck height like it should, so I dont see any issue with it. Also depends where you're measuring from.... the crowers require a bigger pin, so if the measurement is somehow based the holes it may be effected. The deck of the piston is quite short. I never checked the piston dimensions but my guess is the pin moved down a little bit, because there's not a whole lot of room to move it up.

I hope you are planing on using forged pistons.
You'll have to machine the stock pistons to take on a bigger rod.
Crower rods are build for racing and made to fit forged pistons witch are ready to install and highly recomended if you are this far into your build.
good luck!

I am running the wiseco turbo pistons and crower turbo rods... (I forget all the numbers and stuff) but short of a weird scrapping noise that the pistons make, it runs perfectly fine. I believe the rods are shorter to accommodate for the beefier pin on the piston so that they can withstand all the additional stress of racing.

Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
It just sounds like the pistons make noise when they move in the cylinders. I've heard other cars with aftermarket pistons and they sound similar... it just doesn't sound stock anymore is what I'm trying to say... the sound of the pistons travelling up and down is audible. I talked to WISECO and they said that's because of a 3/1000s honing they recommend with installing that particular piston kit to allow for the aluminum to expand.
The sound goes away as the engine heats up, so I believe their explanation.

When my engine is cold sounds like valve ticking noise till it gets warm.
I also have some oil bypass in small quantities.
Is normal on racing engines.
De Civic:
Here is piston / Rod assembly
On the following picture noticed how the center pistons don't go to the very top of the sleeves
(is realy not that much, the pistons where on their way down)
is about 1/8''

You may have to notch your block sleeves to clear the rods.

Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
ok check it. crower totaly made the rods wrong spec. even tho they do work for our cars as proven. the rod height is off. they made the rods for our cars the same as a d16 rod but we have a rod size of 5.511 and the d16 is 5.343.not alot but still made incorrect.. and why would some people have to notch there sleeves and some wouldn't that is weird.if 1 person would have to wouldnt all of them since the specs are the same. crower is selling rods that technically are not for our cars seeing that its made with d16 rod height specs. i have 2 wait and see what crower says.
but supermex - ur pistons dont touch teh top and they do stay below a little also did u notch ur sleeves because teh rods were going to hit the sleeve walls or u did it just incase it was going to?

Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
They didn't have to notch my stock cylinder sleeves... maybe only notching the aftermarket ones? I bought mine from Dezod so that's why there was no problem!

Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
I pulled the tag out of my box of rods... its the same 5.3whatever he said it was. I never noticed, but the motor doesnt seem to really care.

Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
ok i went to my shop and gave teh go ahead. leme ask u thin since teh pistons are 8-1 compression and since the rods are shorter than that means the compression is really aorund 7 1/2-1 or 7-1 for everyones motor correct?so my builder says were gonna have to boost 17-20 daily to compensate which is ok since its a built block..

Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
there is no way that a few hundreths of a difference in rod height is going to drop your compression from 9:1 to 7:1...and if it does, it's going to take forever to start. are you running a full stand alone?

Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
umm random question... Your building your motor for boost right? How "Short is your piston+Rod assembly to TDC? Is it short enough for the correct Compression ratio? Or is it so short as it would be something like 1:1:?
Re: crower rods issues please help asap!!!
I just saw this thread and I am curious, do you solve this "problem"? I think all you where doing is meassuring it wrong...
