Co2 Cooling System *NEW IDEA*
hmmmm well i was sitting here in my room pondering about a new idea. What i was thinking was having a Tank in my trunk bout the same size as a N2O tank, have a line run it to my engine bay going to some brand gas Solenoid. the output would then go to a copper coil which would be wrapped around my CAI and then the output of that to my Z3 slits. When im running my N2O i could turn the Co2 on and it would cool down the intake air and also giva a way cool effect. It wouldnt be that much $ to set up cause i would just need to purchase a gas Solenoid and lines plus Co2 can be filled alot of places and cheap. by the way what are the name of those lines, you know the metal ones you run N2O on. well whatcha guys think, good idea or what info if it would work would be appreciated thanks [IMG]i/expressions/beer_yum.gif[/IMG]

Rep Power: 0 Well you could use compressed air too I would think since compressed air is cold. And you could have the compressed air inject right into the air steam but I doubt anything liek that would be very noticible and not worth your time to even try and do. But if you do then good luck!

Isnt that bad for the engine though, since it has NO oxygen? Im not a rocket scientist, plus I hate chemistry but.. I duno, just thinking logically. Hella great concept though.

Rep Power: 0 hey guys hate to inform you but its been done the co2 runs though a intercool type object and and cools the air its for cars that can't run nitous or turbos i think nx makes it i saw it in a superstreet ad plus if you do a search someone asked about that earlier also

would still be a pretty interesting mod, especially if you did it in a way that the cooling coils looked tricked out, as to impress anyone checking out your engine bay.
Plus a blow off out the sides of your fenders.... would that be considered Uncle Ben's?

Rep Power: 0 I was thinking of the same idea, but using it for NA cars not with N20. I figure that if you wrape the copper tubing around the whole lenght of the CAI, and hit the bottle, the tubbing with freeze and make the intake wicked cold. I remember when I used to play paintball that the barrell would become extremely cold, so why not use the same system on your intake? You wont get great HP gains, but if you are on the high way, and using it with conjunction with your CAI you will get a little extra boost.

Rep Power: 0 think though, you are dealing with an aluminum intake tube about 5 inches away from a warm as hell engine. Its not like its going to freeze down to subzero and chill the air to give 20hp, you may see a gain of 2 hp IF THAT... its not worth the effort

I agree with you. I dont think that there will be that much of a gain considering the engine would be blistering hot. But I think it would be a cool DIY for some extra HP. Shouldnt be less then 100 bucks to make.

Rep Power: 0 You could put it inside the intake and cool the air that way instead of the outside of the CAI and then cool the air. Would save a step and all you would have to do is cut two holes in the CAI for the CO2 lines to go in and out and seal them up real good. Might increse HP little bit more.

Rep Power: 419 Travii is right. You'de have to cool the air inside the intake. If you cool the intake itself, then it doesn't have enough surface area to cool down the air inside the intake. Remember that air itself is a pretty good insulator. You would need an intercooler core for this to work. Hook all of the little tubes that run through the intercooler to the CO2 and let it pass through the intercooler and out into the air. Then encase the intercooler inside the intake. A regular CAI wouldn't be good for this. You'de need something like the stock airbox with more space for an intercooler. That's basically it. You'de get some good gains with FI (Forced Induction), but for a NA (Natually Aspirated) engine it wouldn't be as beneficial.

Lets say we have the intercooler, but instead of just dumping a tank of CO2 to cool it down, why not use an already supplied coolent to do the job. Like making a by-pass on the Freon hoses and routing it thru the intercooler.

Rep Power: 419 Yeah, that would work. I posted that a long time ago. Have a compressor (just like an AC) to cool down the air and two intercoolers. It would work. Again, with FI you would see the gain, but with NA it's kinda pointless.
