shifter nightmare!

so starting from a red light the other night, i go to shift from 1st to 2nd...nothing there. i threw it back to where neutral should be, and try again. nothing. looks like i broke a shift linkage or something. i could literally move the stick around in a circle around the entire console. i have 6k miles left on my engine/powertain so im hoping this is covered. has anyone ever ran into something like this?

Re: shifter nightmare!

its possible that u did break either the linkage or the linkage cable... doesn't sound like it would be the transmission.. just the shifter set-up... i would check the linkage in the engine bay on the top of the transmission... and pop out the center council and see if the cable may have come undone or broke...

Re: shifter nightmare!

yea i checked the engine bay and there is definately something moving under there so I assume its a linkage that broke. I am at school, so I dont have the necessary tools, so I just had my car towed to honda, hoping this will be covered in my warranty (which if its a linkage and not the tranny, its not)

Re: shifter nightmare!

yea im gonna wait till tomorrow to find out what they tell me at the stealership. then ill determine if its gonna be cheaper to have the car towed back to my place or to another shop or just let them do it. considering its gonna cost atleast 50 to get the car towed somewhere else, it might be better to just leave it even if its not covered in my warranty

Re: shifter nightmare!

my cars at honda right now, hit 40k on the car bout 3 weeks ago and now i have a bicycle chain sound in N - 5th gear, even at idle in N, nothing in reverse though. literally sounds like im driven by chains. warranty ended at 36k.. ended up taking this to honda corporate and theyll extend my warranty to cover this, supposedly a recall for 04-05 civics, wasnt mandatory is what they said at corporate so it wasnt announced nationally. FYI
