Re: airbag didn't deploy

yeah we're ok other than the fact my wife is 8 months pregnant and was driving and hit the stearing wheel which caused her to be hospitalized for 30hr. observation seeing as she was having contractions and also it was my little girl's 3rd birthday it happened on...she was in the car as well, no injury though to her. but i called the dealership about it and they claimed it didn't deploy for a number of reason's, though the ecu hasn't been checked yet, they say she was probably sitting to close to the stearing wheel and the civic is supposed to have some type of sensors that stopped it from deploying for that reason....sounds like **** to me but i don't know. i figured some other civic heads on here might know if it's true or not about these sensor's and all

Re: airbag didn't deploy

I could be wrong, but their explanation sounds like crap. The occupant position detection system or whatever i think only knows if you're sitting back against the back of the seat. I don't think it knows that your wife is pregnant, causing her to be closer to the wheel. Once again, I could be wrong, but in my line of work, i've seen a lot of cars deploy airbags, even with the driver damn near touching the wheel. I'd investigate this further, were I you. It could be anything from the ECU, to possibly faulty sensors in the bumper, etc. Good luck, and glad everyone made it out more or less OK.

Re: airbag didn't deploy

I would DEFINATLY take it to a dealer to have them check the SRS system for trouble codes before having a body shop screw with it. There is a reason they didn’t deploy and that needs to be figured out. Has the car been in a accident before?

yeah but if i take it to the dealer and something is wrong then they of course going to cover their ***, i'm sure they could probably rewrite it or something. And no it's never been in a accident, i bought it new. also the impact was even greater seeing that i had a fiberglass body kit front bumper that just shattered.

Re: airbag didn't deploy

yea honda will try to cover their buts... but if u go to get it checked, have someone in power with you (attorney, etc.). Because that could have cost someone their life ya know. I bet they will also tell u some BS about how the fiberglass didnt take any of the impact, and thus the sensor was not triggered, blah blah.

Yeah. definatly go to an attorney first. Cover your butt before they cover theirs.
Be careful driving that car too. Even a nice little bump could set that sucker off now. and coming out at 200km/h, or 200ms to full deployment. It could hurt a little.
