My g/f and I bought a set of used Tein SS coilovers, and I was just wondering if all the pieces are here. The rears I know are fine, and are ready to throw in, but the fronts are what's confusing me.

Here's what we have, nothing more, nothing less:



Is there supposed to be something else to the fronts? I know we didn't get the pillowball upper mounts, but I thought you could install these without the pillowball mounts?

I am familiar with the install of these also, as the car is already riding on Koni struts/shocks, and eibach springs, that I installed.

I don't want to start tearing into this car, and realize I'm missing something.

I see that you're looking good. You dont have manual, and thats why youre asking?

At the bottom, look at the pic of my Tein SS kit and compare.
The green rings are suppose to go on the front struts for the 01-02 Civics, they are to mount the strut bearrings. Also there are suppose to be another set of rings, gold ones, they are for the updated front struts of 03-05 Civics.

Correct, I do not have a manual as we bought them used. I wonder if I can go on their site and dl them??

In your pic, those green rings appear to go on the rears? I do have the green rings for the rears, if thats the case. If not, maybe that is what I am missing?

Also, forgot to mention the car is an 01, so those are the upper mounts I have.

Well this sucks *****, according to http://www.tein.com/ti/inst/ka22u.pdf, page 8, I am missing the gold mounts for the fronts, part # USS01-E1242.

I wonder if you can buy those seperately along with a new hardware kit.

OK, my bad, so the green ones are for 03-05, then, yes, you'll have to buy the Gold one's, for 01-02, from Tein.com (ask'em to email you the manual while you're ate it).
Not a biggy.

There are no special rings that suppose to go for the rears. For the rears, it just needs the exact assembley as the stock rears, no new/additional parts needed.

The only special hardware you'll need are the gold rings.

I was able to download the manual from the Tein website, that's how I found out about the gold rings.

The rear shocks came with the green upper mounts, and according to the instructions, you do need them.

Now I'm just hoping and praying that tein will have the stuff available seperately....

wrong, the green ones are what you need. i have an 02 and i used the green ones. if youre still not convinced, i have a set of the gold rings i can send you for 15 bucks.

I have an '03 and it uses gold ones...green = 01-02. Gold = 03-05.

Platinum = super ballaz.

might be different in the UK, but the green ones go with the 03-05. I used the green ones for my tein basics on my 04.

it even saids in the manual.

This is all confusing. According to Teins website instructions, I need the gold rings. But now I'm hearing that just about everybody with 01-02's need the green rings... I'm calling tein today.

My car, and the Teins, are US spec. So am I for that matter. I have the SS setup as well. The Basics are different than the SS ones. Hence gold rings.

Ok, just got off the phone with Tein, and they verified that I do need the gold mounts. They don't sell direct though, so I called my local race shop and said hell with it, and ordered both green and gold mounts. Waiting to hear back to see how much they are.

I assume you were from the UK since your location saids UK on it. The way the Tein ss and basics mount are the same. I glad you were able to do it with yours. I dont know how you did it, since i had 01 mounts and the spring seats wouldn't fit into the green rings that well.

<shakes fist> Damn manual.

Guess I'll have to take my suspension apart again and paint the rings green so my car will go faster. They've been on the car since August of 2003 so that may explain the gold rings though. Either way, hope you get what you need 5.0 and sorry for any confusion!

yeah it saids after august of 03 or sept of 03. So your car was the last set before they changed the mounts.

thats weird, my car was made june of 2002 and i had to use the green rings. and you cant mistake them, the bearing will only fit the correct ring.

Or the guy I bought the car from put the wrong suspension on it. You'd think that's be something I'd notice after driving the car for almost 3 years. <shudders>
