98 civic hx coupe questions

I got a couple questions about my 98 civic hx coupe. I was wondering is it normal for the clutch to rattle on the lower gears? I got 148K on it and I haven't flushed the transmission fluid yet should go abouts and do it or is it too late?

Re: 98 civic hx coupe questions

I'm not sure what you mean by rattle. What's rattling? There is a heat sheild on your exhaust pipe just below the oil pan that gets loose over time. Check that out.

If you mean that there's a chatter when you engage the clutch then that could be caused by uneven surfaces of the clutch and/or flywheel. So you may need to replace both or just resurface the flywheel. If this is the original clutch, it might be time to open her up and replace it anyways.

Still, if you've never changed your tranny fluid, I'd get that done regardless. It's easy to do and inexpensive. I don't think it will solve your noise problem but it will prevent serious problems down the road. Use either genuine Honda MTF or synchromesh.

Good Luck
