Battery and Gauges dying, help please!

Hello everyone! i have a 97 civic with a mini me 1.5b vtec swap. its fast! well anyways i have been having tons of problems with it...originally i thought my cars intake was messing up so I swapped it with a new one. That made my car work even worse, so I switched it back over to the one I was using previous. When I switched it back something strange happened. A wire hit something and caused my battery fuse to blow. So... since I didn't have another fuse available I jerry rigged the thing with a high gauged wire. My car still ran like crap and eventually even worse. One day I was driving and my gauges in my car died out along with the battery, it was completely dead when I shut off my car. Bad alternator right? I changed the battery and my car worked for a little while longer until one day it just wouldn't start and wouldn't take a jump. So I was sure it was the alternator. I then changed the alternator and my car was working a lot better, however, the next day my gauges and battery died again. In between everything I also replaced the main relay with another possible broken one. Then I just replaced the battery right now and am pretty confused of what to do. I heard it could have something to do with a bad ground... if so, what ground? Thanks for the help.

Re: Battery and Gauges dying, help please!

um did u get around to replacing that fuse? u should right away. the ground people are tlaking about is from the battery to the body to the tranny and the block. make sure these grounds are all secured and healthy looking. if they look like crap u can always replace them. the big 3 helps. u replaced the main relay with another possible broken one? whats the point of that. replace it with a new one that works for sure. u cant be jerry riggin things to ur car expecting ur car to run better, the effort u put in equals the quality u get out.

Re: Battery and Gauges dying, help please!

theres a thread on here somewhere about how to do the BIG 3. its a DIY. its basically upgrading ur major ground wires. theres the ground from the battery to the body...the actually frame or something. then one to the tranny and one to the block from the frame. having sumthing messed up in between these connections can cause strange things to happen. ill search for the big 3 if u cant find it. i know its somewhere around here. also i remmeber a time where a fuse blew and i had to replace it. it had 2 small screws holding it in place. i dropped one of the screws and didnt think much about it. i jus tightend the other one that was holding the other side of the fuse down. after that my car would die eveyrnight. when it was warm outside, the metal to metal contact became better and the car would start. when it was cold, the metal just didnt connect right. it was all a connection problem. so i would get that fuse back in and check all of ur other ones to make sure eveyrthing is ok. loose wires that make it possible to blow fuses should be put out of the way or taped up.

here is the link...i thought it was on here but couldnt find it. this is the "big 3 upgrade"...i would do it anyway if i were you, just to see what happens. people do this just to have there car run smoother or to stop lights dimming or to improve sound quality. its an overall + upgrade, nothing negative here and really easy to do.
