Synthetic Tranny Fluid? 5 speed...
Synthetic Tranny Fluid? 5 speed...
Ive heard mixed opinions about synthetic tranny fluid. In my Chevy 4 speed I use MT-90 redline. I read on some Civic site a dude was saying that in Civics it can eat up the synchros? Its on a 93' Civic, 5 speed EX.. miles are unsure, want to put in the right thing... any reccomends? Is there a tranny oil filter also I should be changing? Is it easy to get to? Any pics of install would be sweet... Im just getting used to working on imports so any tips... as said before... would be cool
Thanks ...

I've been using synthetic MT fluid since 10k and my '03 civic now has 128k.. No problems here. I run Red Line MTL and love it, night and day difference when compared to Honda fluid in my opinion. I'm not sure if MTL is the right weight for a 93 civic, so I'd look into that.

Re: Synthetic Tranny Fluid? 5 speed...
most older d series and b series manual transmissions take 5w-30 or 10w-30 regular oil...you dont need anything special
the 7th gen 5 speed trans take special honda synthetic transmission fluid...if you dont use it you can risk popping out of gear and you can eat up syncros...
other manuals can take gear oil like 75w-90 or 80w-90 regular and synthetic...amsoil also makes a special transmission oil availible too like a lot of other companies...automatics usually take dexron with addative like mercon 5 or jvt for hondas...mobil has a fully synthetic atf availible for almost any vehicle out there...its good stuff

Cool... I'll just pick up some 10/30 synthetic then. Ive never changed the tranny fluid on a Civic, is there a filter also I should be changing? Thanks..
I have a long piece of 1/2 hose and a homemade funnel, I heard that would be quite useful.. its what I use on my Chevy to fill and drain the trans..
