How far can I drive without an allignment?

I'm getting springs and a camber kit installed at 2 different shops in the city. They're both on the same street but about 2-3 miles from one another. I'm getting Tein S-Tech springs installed at one place, I think they have a 1.6 inch drop, and then going to the other place to have a front and rear camber kit installed. Then after all that I have to get an allignment, but can I drive from one place to the other in between? And also, will I need a front camber kit sitting on 215/35/18 on a DX? They don't have them in right now, it'll take a week to order them. Let me know your thoughts.

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

its best to get an alignment after you have suspension changes because it can be very dangerous for driving especially at high speeds and you can ruin the tread on your tires as well very fast. You don't have to worry too much about getting alignment right away, but just dont drive too much and get the alignment asap. The main concern on the 7th gens is not the camber in the front but in the rear. I'm dropped around 1.7" all around and I do not have a camber kit. I should get one but I am incredibly lazy and broke but my camber doesn't look so bad. but get a camber kit, its better to be safe than sorry

Only driving that far away you'll be totaly fine, as long as the instal holds up!! May I suggest DIY for both?

you'll be fine for sure. I've drove miles and miles with terrible toe and camber. You could always do a little DIY alignment with some string and jackstands if it worries you!

I drove 140 miles before I did my alignment. You'll be fine. Don't be surprised when your steering wheel is way off center.

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

drive like 200 miles before you get an allignment done b/c the springs need time to settle all the way... the allignment will be different if you have it done right off the bat.

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

Serious?
So should I get the camber kit installed, then the springs.......or the springs then the camber kit? I'm going to try and do it all the same day so I can drive from one shop to the other. And then I should drive for a few days before getting an alignment?

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

you can drive for a while without a camber kit, i drove around for a week before i got mine and my tires are fine it was just the steering was off a bit, and high speed driving is fine...formula 1 has negative camber on their cars to help them take corners faster and there going like 200 mph

doesn't matter what order... yeah just drive for a few days before you have the alignment done though as like I said... the springs need to settle

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

Camber isnt a big deal. Toe is what you have to watch out for. You pay alot for your tires so why not make them last. If you modify your suspension like that your camber and toe will be off a good bit, it doesn't take long for your tires to get worn.

BS on the waiting for a week to align, the settling will not change it that much of a difference.

Go get that **** aligned before you make another thread about where to buy new tires.

i am gonna have to disagree with your comment. last summer i dropped my civic on sportlines and decided that i was "too lazy" to get a camber kit. well when i took my wheels off for the winter both front tires were gone, and i mean gone. my tires were as soft as bubble gum. BUT my rear tires were not in that bad of shape. actually there was little tire wear at all. different suspension set ups will result in different levels of wear on your tires. moral of the story --> get a camber kit and get an alignment once your drop has settled.

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

You can drive as far as your tires will let you, then when they wear out at crazy angles you can get new ones and drive some more! till eventually you get so tired of it you decided to align it and drive some more!

Okay, so you think I'd need a camber kit for the front or just the rear would be fine?

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

"OEM specs" is an allignment w/ a stock camber arm or bolt. You will never get a proper allignment on a lowered car w/ stock camber bolts and arms... I would get front and rear to avoid the headache down the road even though the rear gets worse wear than the front

Okay, I'll get the springs, then drive over and get the camber kit front and rear, then get an alignment at the same place. Thanks.

Last question, would you suggest Tein or Intrax? The Intrax are regularly $290 while the Tein are regularly $205. But I can get the Intrax on sale for $180.

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

I'm surprised nobody has asked why you are getting your springs and camber kits installed at different places. To install the springs you have to take the shocks/struts off (by removing the camber bolt/arms) and then reinstall everything. Why not install the new camber kit when reinstalling the shocks/struts?

It's $100 cheaper to install the camber kit somewhere else. They also carry a different cheaper camber kit I'm getting.

Re: How far can I drive without an allignment?

Spring install can be pain in the ***.
But save money and do camber kit install at home!

6 bolts to remove on rear.
Front camber bolt is useless, it tends to move around and mess up spec anyways.
As long as alignment shop can set toe at 0, it should be fine.

I think i've driven my car without alignment done for maybe 6 months.
(No camber kit, 2 inch drop.
