E brake removal
Did the search already with no luck. I got a new ebrake handle/boot and I'm not sure how to remove the stock one. I saw somewhere that someone said you may need to cut it. After taking it off, does anybody know if the new one will slip right over the release button, or does that come off too? I have some time before I can install it. It was an early bday present since I was suppose to go on deployment, but I injured myself and will not be able to make it so now I have to wait a month before I can actually get the handle. So if anybody has any help, I'd appreciate it.

just literally rip off the peice surrounding the ebrake handle, the peice with the pocket in it (i have an 02) then just yank the ebrake "skin" off. after doing that you should just have the ebrake handle and the button. just the metal handle not the plastic. if you have an 04-05 it's all one piece. take the console off and you'll see the three bolts that hold it to the floor. make sure you park on a level surface or block the wheels, don't wanna be rolling down the driveway with a ratchet in hand and trying to stomp on the brake pedal from the passenger's seat...

If you dont know how to take off the console, or want a view of the ebrake setup, pull up the parts diagram on majestic

... but just yanking up on it seems like it may be a bitch. I didn't put too much *** behind it just because I didn't know if it would break anything underneath. I also wanted to keep the whole unit in rather than take it out... seems like it would be more solid to work with. So I guess I'll try and yank up on it to see if that works, if not, then maybe cut it?

Re: E brake removal
Just an update on the ebrake "skin" removal for any of those who may do this in the future. After tugging up on it for about 5 minutes, I worked up the courage and cut it. I used a blade and cut right up the middle on the front and back side of the skin. After splitting it in half, I realized that on the back side, the skin is actually glued on, so just pulling it off is impossible for all those that try. After splitting the front and back of the skin, I realized it still wouldn't pull off, so I took the blade and sliced the skin on the right side (there as a recess in the plastic the whole way down to make it possible) After doing that cut, it all came right off. I hope none of this confuses anybody.
The new handle/boot slipped right over the existing button. When installing it, it may take a few tries to get it set in the right spot. I thought that slipping it as far down as possible would be best---not true. It would release the brake but when I tried to relock the brake, it wouldn't. So a little fidgeting got it to work out alright.
I hope this helps anyone who plans on possibly changing that ugly ebrake handle. Any questions, let me know.

Re: E brake removal
its easiest if you just take whole lower center console aprt...its not that much work, and it'll give you alot of room to work with
