Clutch: Did I get ripped off?
So I have a 2001 civic with 73,000 plus miles and I had not replaced the clutch. It appeared to go out and, so, I had it replaced. Now, in terms of the pressure that I have to put on the clutch pedal to engage the gear, it seems really smooth. I thought since I replaced the clutch, the pressure needed to press down on the pedal would be greater (i.e., need to apply more pressure to push the pedal down). This is not the case, though, and the clutch pedal is very smooth (light). Is this normal? The clutch pedal does not feel any different than it did before it was replaced.
Second question, how should the clutch now feel?
And finally, do you think Honda would rip me off and just charge me for parts and labor without actually replacing anything?
Thanks

yea....700 is a lot. Stock clutches are 100 from the dealer.
I'd personally just get a stage 1 and install it myself, but thats me.
Parts the prolly replaced:
Clutch: 100
Flywheel: 190
Pressure Plate:1 100

I thought it was a little steep as well. However, it's already paid for. What I'm asking is: should I feel a difference in the clutch pedal when pressing it down? The new clutch doesn't make the clutch pedal feel any different.

holy ****. 700 bucks. i bought my exedy organic street clutch for 300 and installed it myself. saved 400 bucks and it will never go out on me again.
anyways back on topic. it is typical for the clutch to be "soft" as you are still breaking the clutch in. most clutches seem to get harder as they get broken in more.

I always ask for my old parts back after they finish the work- when they tell me they have thrown them away or lost them or something I get pissed off and get compensated. This started back when I was upgrading parts on my bike and noticed some of the parts were used- and they always seem to keep the parts that I was replacing. Some places arent as ethical as you'd like them to be. Also, always get an invoice and look over it before paying- know what your paying for!
As for the feel. My clutch feels pretty soft. Its not firm, but right in between. I got in my buddies 6th gen for some errands and his **** was soo soft, I couldnt believe that it was engauging.

Why two threads about the same topic?? After replacement, the clutch should feel about like it did, but engage earlier. As for the cost, I think you got screwed. I looked it up once on consumer reports or something, and the national average for a clutch replacement on a 7th gen (parts and labor) was like $465.
$700 is about normal from the DEALERSHIP. They charge you up the *** for everything. I just did a full engine swap and just changed my clutch while I had it out and it didnt cost me anything for labor. Get a set of wrenches and do it yourself. Its not hard at all.

I thought the universal price for a clutch install was around $500 with parts and labor for a civic. The dealer will always rape you. I learned that hard way. Better off going to like a meineke or something or independent shop that knows hondas.
There is no "universal" going rate for a clutch install or any mechanical work for that matter because labor rates vary around the country. I'm certain that my cost here in CT is more than FL for example. $700 is a reasonanble INSTALLED price from a Honda dealer. You might use that as the upper end of the range.
