CAI vs SRI
CAI vs SRI
Ok i know this has been discussed in various places but i just want your opinions. I would love to get a CAI but am paranoid of hydrolock. I hear it's rare but can happen. Anyone ever have this experience? Ok now vs. the CAI how much difference is there? How much HP does a CAI give you in a 06 Civic LX? How about the SRI? Anyone done dyno with these? Would there even be a point to putting a SRI on? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

i always run sri's .. mostly because i can make them.. it's a lot harder to fab up a cai... as far as hydrolock, you have to REALLY MESS UP to hydrolock a motor... as in you have to almost completely submerge the air filter... dyno numbers will not be acurate for comparing the 2... anyway.. i'd just get whatever you want.. you may get a little more power out of a cai but mainly if you live in a hot climate.. in cold weather, they'rll be about the same.
hey thanks for the input. I live in brownsville, tx...right next to mexico so it's hot here 10 out of 12 months so maybe cai is a better way to go. so you would have to drive through a huge puddle to hydro lock huh? I guess people make it out to sound like just driving on wet roads can cause it. I am not going to lower my car so maybe it's not as big of a problem then? Keep the feedback coming. Thanks so much!
sri intakes are suppose to give you a little mre tq and usually sound a LITTLE throatier....besides that i like cai personally
plus i still say you have to be a moron to hydro lock a motor....rule of thumb if water is anymore than 1' deep DONT BE DRIVING IN IT UNLESS YOU GOT A RIDE THATS A COUPLE FEET OFF THE GROUND!!

so if my car isn't lowered and i drive through reasonably wet road conditions...(i would never drive through a flooded street anyway) i shouldn't have a problem even with the cai? Does anyone know how far off the ground their cai is?
in brownsville, you're ok.. i have a friend just north of dallas that has a civic that's about half an inch off the ground, has all the plastic underneath taken out.. and has a HUGE cai.. and he has never had problems... i did however have one friend who hydrolocked his motor on a ep3 civic... btu he went into a puddle that was up to his lug nuts... he couldnt' see at night..
well like i've said, i've always run sri's and i live in tx too... actually my current car, i just unbolted the air box from the mass air sensor and put an adapter plate w. a cone filter on it... so it's not even an sri.. and it sounds good and makes a power difference i can tell
