Oil loss

I own a '06 Si with 5,000 miles that has a severe drinking problem. At my first scheduled oil change, my car was 2 1/2 qts. low on oil. My dealer can't find a leak anywhere, no puddles found. I drive the car as intended and realize a little oil loss is understandable, but lossing half of its capacity is unreal. Has anyone else had this problem? Or if not, any ideas what it could be i.e leaky valve, unseated piston? Car drives and sounds fine, the only indication is a dirty tailpipe.

your tailpipe being dirty is fine too... unless of course it's drenched in oil
my only guess would be that they didnt' check the fluid levels durring the pre-delivery inspection in wich case you need to demand a replacement because driving 2.5 quarts low WILL drasticly reduce the life of the engine... and dont settle for an engine replacement.. they need to replace the whole car because if the engine is replaced, that will depreciate the value of the car too...

Angry oil loss

I live in MA, so there is a lemon law. So they have three times to prove themselves worthy. They told me that everyone was so excited when my car came in that no body bothered to check the fluids upon delivery. To me, that is not a good excuse. Since the oil change, i checked the oil again, and i was low about 1 qt. So i drove my car to the dealer, they added oil, and told me to come back in 800 miles so they can document the oil loss. Im heated, i am spending good money on this car, and shouldn't have to be takin it to the dealer all the time. I am just about ready to throw in the towel.

So you waited until the 5,000 mile mark for the first oil change? Since the oil change how many miles had you driven before it was low the 1 quart of oil?

The Si's along with the S2000's burn oil when driven, about 1 quart every 2500 miles or so. It should continue to do that for the life of the engine. Dont try to stop it or use heavier weight oil. Just keep an eye on your oil level. If it got 2 quarts low, a few things should have happened. #1 your oil light should've come on, #2 your Vtec will NOT engage, #3 your check engine light should've also come on. 2 and 3 normally happen together, which will cause you to have to go to the dealer for a diagnostic check.

if it's not stated in the owner's manual or noted somewhere else by the dealership and the person made aware of the "issue" then it's a defect... just because they "tend to do that" doesn't make it normal... also it should depend on the climate.... if a car like that burns a quart of oil in 2500 miles in say, ohio.... then imagine what it'll do in texas?! they weould be replacing engines like crazy.. this is not a turbo car... i am aware that it's considered a high performance car, btu that kind of oil loss is rediculous...

I got my first oil change at 5000 miles because your supposed to, since it runs on synthetic oil. And yes, the lights did come on.. which is why it was brought to the dealership a little before it reached 5000 miles. I went at 3000 miles but they told me that it didn't need to be changed until the oil life gauge read 10 percent. So, i went back. They ran diagnostic test on my car but could not find anything wrong. I personally believe that the problem is internal.

Since it's under warranty, I'd keep taking the car back then. I know it's an inconvenience, but if they cannot find out what is causing this, and fix the problem, the lemon law would apply.
