indiglo gauge cluster dim, but nothing else??

i have a 2001 lx sedan, and i recently installed some reverse indiglo gauges (ebay brand lol). i followed a diy in the forum and tapped into the red/black wire to power my gauges.

they work fine, but they are at least 2x brighter with the headlights off (tested in a closed garage w/ no light entering vehicle). they dim as soon as i switch on the headlights...nothing else dims. my head unit remains just as bright, so does my domelight etc. is there a different wire i should tap into to avoid this dimming? is it possible the stock cluster bulbs are lighting up and canceling out some the indiglo? any advice is appreciated.

its not the stock gauges dimming them because they are on along with your parking lights. Was the car running when you noticed this?

thanks for the reply, but i should've updated this. no1 responded after a couple of days so i did some experimenting and found that tapping into my head unit's 12v kept the indiglo's constant and amazinlgy bright. problem solved. next thing i'm doing is the climate control led conversion. i would post pics, but it looks like i still can't.
