Problem with my brand new Deck

Just got a Pioneer Premier DEH-P780MP ... installed it and there is major engine whine. Not the regular one... you can barely hear the music loud. Anybody have any idea ? Its going to a rockford 4ch...

forgot to mention i had a deh-p680mp in it already and had no problems...just upgraded and had this problem

I did mention that I had it hooked up to a rockford 4 ch w/ 16 awg wire. I had no problem with the 680 just with the 780

Dude I seriously hope you didn't hook the amp to the battery with that 16 gauge. Most likely the engine whine is either a ground loop or power noise.

1. GROUND LOOP
If you're not grounding everything properly, or you have some sort of loop in your wiring, it'll cause a really loud whining noise in your system. It's a long process but go back and check all your ground connections to make sure they're tight and secure. Also try grounding eveything to the same place if possible. And PLEASE make sure you scrape any paint off the grounding areas so it's a nice clean contact point.

2. POWER NOISE
Not sure what it's called, but it happens when you run the power wire too close to your speaker wires. Another characteristic of this is it gets louder when you rev your engine because your alternator spools and your battery puts out more power.....or some **** like that. Try running your power wires away, far away from your speaker wires.

the pricier pioneers also require noise filters on the constant 12v+ feed wire..

In that case, you can pick those up from Radio Shack for $15.

The amp is hooked up to the battery with 8 awg. That has nothing to do with it. I had a 680mp hooked up to everything and it worked fine... i just switched the 780mp and i got the noise. Everything else stayed the same... any clues?

i installed them for a living for 3+ years and most pioneers come with inline noise filters on the constant. my avic-n1, n2, and p860mp all came with inline filters.

I would run new power to the ignition harness and also a new ground wire to a paint-free piece of metal. Also, how is the ground at the amplifier? I hope it's not loose or corroded, take a look at that.
If all that doesn't help you may think about trying to bench test the deck, I don't know what kind of equipment you have access to so that may or may not be difficult. In my experience I have seen a number of Pioneer decks that had unusual noise problems which were only cured upon replacement of the deck. Best of luck to you.

Just got it back from warranty. Just defective but they did tell me to becareful with the new decks because their rcas are very sensitive. So dont plug them in and out while the deck is on.

I had major whine until I ran my radio ground to the same location of my amp ground.
