Question Do I need to add relays if my alarm has neg/pos outputs?

Im installing an alarm (Prestige APS-800) on a 2005 Honda Civic DX. Ive installed power door lock actuators already and was wondering if I could just wire the actuators directly to the brain or do I need to add 2 relays? I think since the brain has negative and positive outputs I can wire it directly to the brain, but Im not sure and dont wanna fry it.

Thanks,

T

I would wire it directly because those modules act as a relay built in.

You definately need to use two relays if you are powering up aftermarket actuators. The voltage coming from the " brain" wont be high enough to power up the actuators and you'll probably mess something up. Aftermarket actuators need 12V+ to function properly. If you need help on wiring it up send me a PM.

couldnt agree more, most brains will only put about half an amp of current on the lock/unlock outputs. Thats usually enough to trip a relay.

Its pretty easy to wire up the two relays. If you dont wanna bother with it, get a door lock relay module from dei, part # 451m
