Hi GEARBOX , NEED YOUR ADVICE !
Hi GEARBOX , NEED YOUR ADVICE !
Hi there , GB , after reading up your posts here , you seems to be the one that know the most about our rides , so I really like to have your advice on my little dilema here ?
I have a 02 coupe with A/T with 35K only , The rear main seal between the engine and the AT unit has a slow leak .. may be a drop a day.
My question is , should I let the dealer replace the seal under warranty , or just let it ride , someone told me the slow leak won't do any damage to the AT or the car , but letting the dealer drop the tranny may do more harm then good ! What would you do if you were me ?
Also if left unchanged , will the slow leak becomes a big leak or it will just stay the same ?
Hope you can help.

Tranny slow leak
ok , GB is gone , but do anyone else have had the same problem like mine and what would you do.. if you have a slow leak in the A/T main seal ...
A> let the dealer drop the tranny and fix it now ( still have 1 year left on warranty )
or
B > let it ride and live with the slow leak so to keep the rest of the car factory tight ?
One more question , if I do decided to have it fix , should I demand the dealer to repleace ALL the seal on the unit or anything else since it is already taken apart ?
Hope you gents can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.

If it's under warranty, you'd be a fool not to use it. Take it in and see what they say. Make sure the car is stock or they'll absolutely try to void any warranty. I would not tolerate leaks on a "new" car.
Confirm if it is ATF leaking and not engine oil from the oil changes.
If it is ATF it will continue to leak and will leak more later on. Get it fixed under warranty.
Are you having shifting problems? Might as well get Honda to replace your tranny with a new one for free under warranty.

Hi Stock ,
Is 100% ATF leak and I think you are right , I should get it fix before it gets worst.
But getting another tranny from them is another story , any suggestion how to tell the dealer to give up a new tranny ?
If you have any experience in dealing with them , I would love to hear from you.

let them fix it. you'll have big problems later and actually moms 92 accord has an axle leak or something they couldn't fix, so eventually bye bye tranny. it doesnt matter anyway, most 01-02 auto tranny won't last past 80k miles. they were built with defective parts.
