Timing Belt due?

Afriend of mine is an former (yes former) Honda Factory wrench with a dozen years. I just bought a 2000 EX with 85k miles. The first thing he told me was I should get ready to change the timing belt before 100k. He has no reason to BS me, but it did sound like a dealer rap. The car runs great, except the AT pauses back and forth from a dead stop sometimes in 110 degrees with the AC on.

Any suggestions, ideas comments.

also do anything else you can get your hands on at that time and while you're at it - eg belts, seals etc.

well ya seals are a given. i would even do the crank pulley with a new oem because the rubber damper is pretty beat by then.

Wow! What happened to my used Honda being bullet proof and everyone boasting it would last 200k? Sounds like a lot of work for 100k, or is that my imagination. Which seals would you do? Dang, our Ford Explorer is doing better than that at 120! Thanks for your input!

Since I'm new to this new Honda family, can someone tell me about the different generations? Thanx!

They are pretty bullet proof but you have to maintain them. The timing belt is a maintenence item If you don't do it and it breaks you have pistons running into valves when it breaks.

well yea any car will have timing belt replacement. actually 100k is pretty long compared to most. i was talkin about cam seal and crank seal i believe. wherever you take it, they will factor it in anyway its part of the job and maybe cost $20.
