AEM CAI, Problems???
I have searched the board and have not found the answers to my problems so please do not flame. First off I installed my AEM CAI today with no hassle. I have a few questions that seem to be problems though with the setup. Please help with the solution.
FYI : I have a 2002 EX 5-Speed
1st = After positioning the air filter it seems to be very close to the transmission. I positioned it the best I could but if you wiggle the filter it still taps against the tranny. Is this a problem? Will the transmission melt the filter?
2nd= After resetting the ECU and taking it for a spin I noticed that the acceleration actually seems to be alittle more sluggish than before, the tires seem harder to spin than before. Did I actually loose power or is this just a mental aspect?
3rd and lastly = When acellerating I seem to get a growl as an exhaust would make. The harder I get on the throttle the louder the growl. I however do not hear this whistle that is posted before. I do however hear a brief whoosh when I get on the gas. Is this normal?
Many thanks with all your help in the above matters. I know these questons may sound newbie but this is my first CAI install. Thanks,
Ozzy

The noise you here is normal with an intake on.....As for resetting the ECU I always reccomend not resetting it and just let the computer reset on its own, which it will over time. I say this cause resetting the ECU causes the computer to have to "re-learn" itself right away and it feels like crap for a little bit afterwards. That is just what I suggest but it is no big deal and your car will be fine and drive normal after a little while. As for the trans part, I can not answer it. umm...i dont know about the rumbling...but that whoosh noise you hear is perfectly normal. That means that the intake is sucking in more air, more rapidly, which is good..and sounds badazz.
Hey Man, i just got the aem cai too and installed it yesterday.. At first I had a hard time putting on that new bracket but if you take your whole battery out and the metal bottom holder youll have more room to move the filter around. It took a little more effort but I finally got the filter not to touch anything. Good Luck! What sux is that i go tthe bypass valve but I didnt know I had to cut the main pipe out of the intake so Im holding off on putting that on.

I just installed my AEM CAI on Sunday afternoon with some help from my b/f. I haven't noticed any loss of power. It only seems better. The sound is completely normal. On the instructions for installation of the cai, it says that if it's touching any part of the car to push the filter up a little more so that it's not touching anymore. If it's not touching it should be fine. I haven't heard of anyone's melting or anything like that.
Other then the stated issues, how do you like your AEM CAI so far?
