Why the F....
Why the F....
Why does my AC kick in when I use the front defrost. The last thing I want when its below freezing out is to have refrigerated air to try to melt the ice on my frozen windshield. Any way to prevent this from happening???

DIY for turning off the A/C when defrosting
DIY for turning off the A/C when defrosting
Honda designed the car to have the A/C turn on when the defroster is turned on, to pull the moisture out of the air. Why does everyone only equate A/C with cold air, A/C is just that -->Air Conditioning<-- it doesn't matter if you have hot or cold air going through the vents. Besides the ADDED benefit of defrosting the glass FASTER cause the A/C is on, it also helps to keep the freon circulated throughout the coolant system, so that way your A/C lasts longer, and you don't have to get it recharged as often. IE, it is better to leave the A/C the way it was designed, so that it does turn on when it is most beneficial, for you(so you can see), and the car(so the A/C lasts longer).
just DIY the a/c off, and run it for at least 10 mins each week to keep the system in good shape....

I can think of a good reason to turn it off...performance. AC sucks alot of HP from the engine when on. I'm not talking about a few 'rice points' either. I'm talking make you merge onto the highway at dangerously slow speeds. With the AC on, the car is probably sub 100HP though I've never seen a dyno run. If you want your car to perform like a geo metro than leave it on
its a good thing cause. it's recommended that you run your A/C in the winter...cause if you don't use it during the season... the freon or some stuff realted to you A/C might get F*cked up and you won't be able to maintainyour A/C... this was one reason why A/c in older cars break down... most new cars turn A/C on automatically. Hey you dun wanna be coughing up a few G later on to get the A/C fixed.

Even after the DIY, the A/C comes on when turned to defost. The difference is that you can press the button and turn it off... so I would recommend doing the DIY even if you like the A/C coming on. At least you have the option to turn it off
If it is cold out, you mostly have the heat on. The airconditioning comes on because thats what dries the air to reduce the fogging of your windows. Because your heat is on, the airconditioned air is not cold. Its hot dry air that melts the ice and gets rid of the fog.
