immobilizer for 2001

I've done searches but couldn't find the answer. I read that the immobilizer came in civic starting 2001. The immobilizer chip is suppose to be on our keys right but the 2001 civic keys look to be too small to hold a chip inside. The 2001 and the 2004 civic keys look different. The 2004 civic keys looks like it can hold a chip inside of it. Is it just different technology? Or is it because the 2001 civic doesn't have an immobilizer??

You should have a sticker in the (front) side windows ?? If they had the warning sticker then.

Well let's just say you took ur key to homedepot or a lock smith to have it cut, will you be able to start the engine with that key? If you can then the chip is not placed in the key. So the immobilizer not being on the key is not as an efficent design as the newer ones.

7thgens have immobilizer chip in them, It's a very small chip that sends out a frequency to the ignition. If you have a key duplicated at home depot it will NOT start the car, but will probably open doors, trunk, etc.

Yes the copied key can open everything but it will not start the car.
The engine will turn but doesn't start up.

Yes. I had my ignition changed and I only had one key with me at the dealer. So I have 1 key that works and two that don't. There is a bypass or way around it. But I will not post here. Do you have a key that does not have a chip and it starts the car?

The immobilizer is in the car and the keys have transponders. The 01-02 have a male edge key and i know the 04-05 keys are female edged keys therefore are a little more difficult to copy. I'm not sure about the 03 keys.

Yes the immobilizer really works. I had the dealership guy tie my immobilizer to my alarm so if my alarm goes off then the car will not start even with the real key. If you plug a copied key with no transponder then the car will not turn over. Does this make your 7th gen theif proof? NO, but it makes it more difficult to steal your car then the 6th gen. The 6th gen all you have to do is jack in a flat head screw driver and turn the ignition and the car would turn on.
