How to remove cigarette lighter/12v outlet?

I did a search and I couldn't find out anything.. I remember there was a thread about this a while ago and I couldn't figure it out, but I will need to take it out soon so I want to figure out how in advance.

What I am trying to do is take the cig lighter or 12v outlet out of the panel in my center console in my 04 coupe. I tried forever before and couldn't figure it out, so I'm posting with the hope that somebody might be able to shed some light. Thanks!!

auto?
thin trim around shifter comes up, then the larger trim around shifter comes up, you reveal 4 phillips head screws, i think, it's either 2 or 4. Then pry off the "legs" outward (the ends nearest the seats) up to the cupholders, then gently pry the whole trim up and out towards the rear of the car. Unplug cig. lighter. Done. Manual works the same, except you remove the shift ****.

oh yea, its a bitch. There is a tiny tiny tab you push in as you yank it out, it's hard, but give it a good yank and it'll come out.

actually u dont have to undo any screws at all, just pop out the two strips on the side of the shifter and grab them and just pull hard and it should pop right out, cig lighter and those two tabs and all

if it was in the car, would the lighter pull out or would it push in to come out?

You gotta just pull real hard. I got it out by pressing the tab down with a screw driver and then pushing it out from the back. its just a PITA.

when u have the panel out just unplug the wire clip on the back of the cig lighter and u should be able to remove the whole thing really easily, it should take about 1 minute total
