Engine Swap Question

My friend has a 1990 Civic Sedan EX. He has a 1997 Civic DX engine available. The engine code for the 97 is D16Y7 I believe. The question is, can he swap the engine with little to no modification? Another question is, can he use his 1990 transmission? Thanks in advance I don't have much time to look for the info myself.

i'm thinking you'll have to change from OBD1 to OBD2, but thats a guess based on age of cars.

what is wrong with the stock motor?

You should be able to swap them, but you will have to use the original head. The 97 has a completely different distributor than his original motor. And to use that dist, you would have to convert it over to OBD-II.

And yes, the tranny will bolt up to the new motor.
