K24 Engine w/ K20a3 Tranny

Would their be a problem using an a3 tranny on a K24 engine. I was talking to a shop about doing a k24 swap. He suggest me on using an a3 tranny, because it is cheaper, better gearing for k24, and it will balance everything out (i am not too sure what he meant).

Any POSITIVE comment is welcome.

another question. By swapping a k24 w/ a3 tranny. Does it enable for me to have ac and ps???
(Right now I have no ac, due to my dam intercooler piping and downpipe. It is hot like a bitc* this summer and I can't see a $hit when raining. etc..........)

I think a, a2 and a3 enable us to have ac and ps right?

HondaLuver will become famous soon enough
yea, you have to use si ac lines, your stock compressor radiator... all the k series compressors fit all motors.. so a k20a will fit on a k24...

i suggest using the A2 tranny because of the shorter gears and since you can not rev very high everytime you shift, you will shift out of vtec... so it will really suck.. which k24 are you thinking of using, and i also suggest to use kpro...

will be using a k24 out of the tsx. Do I really need to get kpro right away? I am planning on getting kpro, but that is down the line....

since I'm pretty sure you have to use a k20a2 ecu, you need to get kpro.

your custom title says k20 soon ... you should change that, shouldn't you? ;P

Not quite, because i havn't decided on which engine I am swapping. I could change it to "K Series SOOOON"" though.

What is the price on this swap, anybody know? K24 TSX + K20a3 Tranny + Misc K20a2 parts + labor = ???? (I got motor mounts already). I got a quote from a shop which is pretty good, but I just want too see what others are paying.

I don't know about other people, but this is what I paid (am paying):

K20a front clip: $5700 (including customs, shipping to my shop)
K20a3 axles: $200
modification to the exhaust: ?
oem dc5-r header/cat: $300 (incase my clip doesn't come with one)
ep3 Fluidyne radiator: $500 shipped
oem ep3 radiator hoses: $12
ep3 aem v2: $130 shipped
nextgear img: $60 shipped
quaife lsd: $900 shipped
labor: $250
misc. parts (harness, differential bearings, etc): $150-ish
hasport mounts: $475 shipped

my total: $8677

a bare dc5r swap would probably cost about $7000-7500 ... you really don't need to get a fluidyne radiator, quaife lsd or any other bling items that I got.

a K20a2 swap will be about $2000 cheaper that that

yeah, we've been buddies for like 5 years now ... he always hooks me up ...

hm ... tsx swap, hmm? ... iirc, you'll have to use the k20a2 ecu, kpro, k20 intake mani + tb ... k20 subframe, k20a3 axles (if u want 4 lug) ... oh yeah, lots and lots of tylenol.

I am not tooo sure if he included k-pro or not. K-pro alone is 1k already. Is it possbile to run the a2 ecu and leave it untune, or should I call back and ask what his going to use as tunning?
He did a k20a2 b4 and 1 tsx swap.

eh, I wouldn't run a plain k20a2 ecu ... rev limiter is at 8k, which would make your motor turn into scrap metal. I'm sure the timing is very different as well ... the compression and cams are almost the same though ... I have no idea haha

kpro includes a base tsx map ... so you should be able to run that until you get a tune

I think you should call him up and ask him what kind of ecu he used for the other tsx swap ... if they got kpro, then I would suggest that you get kpro as well

^^^ where did u get ur front clip/engine from??? He told me for an a2 swap is 8k-8.5k.
If you said a2 is 2k cheaper, would it be somewhere around $6.6k-7k?
Maybe I will just get the engine and let the shop install it (it is 1k to drop it in).

a2 would be probably be around $6000 if you don't DIY

you can find an a2 motor easily ... junkyard ... car-parts.com ... k20a.org has some every so often and also check clubrsx. you can easily get it for about 3500 for a full/near full swap ... there's one right now in central cali on k20a.org for 3500 + s/h I think

swap - 3500
subframe - 300
axles - 200
mounts - 475
ep3 radiator - 200-ish
misc. parts - 200 or so
k20a2 oem header - 200

that's almost $5k ... if you can get all that, you can pay a shop to swap for like $1k ... or you can rent a cherry picker and attempt to DIY. If you shop around and if you're patient, you can find parts for cheaper than that. if you don't know how to do it, wiring will kill ya

any way you look at it, a k20a2 swap should NOT be more than $6750-ish ... if it's more than that, you've paid too much

I believe www.hmotorsonline.com have started stocking K20a2 swaps ... they are expensive as hell, but they are also easily THE most trusted and reputable shop period. you can also ask them to take a pic of the VIN plate on block ... then you can call a police station and have them check it ... there are also some vin # checker websites on the net I believe

if you have a friend that works for honda or acura (hehe ... drivetofast), then he can easily reflash your key for you (for free)

if you have kpro, you don't need to reflash it ... just turn off your immobilizer
