Less BOUNCE to the OUNCE
Less BOUNCE to the OUNCE
Hi Guys, I know this is a kinda common issue. But how can I get my Stock 2005 LX to quit bouncing in the back ?
One person said better shocks would do it ? Right now the ride is really stiff - still having a hard time getting used to it - kinda regretting my purchase.
Would better shocks stiffen the ride more (which I don't want) or will it calm it down. The front doesn't botter me to much but when I hit and bump in the road (one that dips vs is raised), the back end just seems to lash down and then bounce up.
And the car generally bounces on the highway.
thank you

If I have someone put after market shocks on the rear does it void the warranty on my car in any way.. I only have 1000 miles on it.
I guess I was thinking about Tokico's but I can't seem to find them in sizes that fit 2005's

transport more weight... seriously. put some luggage or few pounds in the rear and it'll soften the ride quality.
if you plan to invest into a stereo sub system, nows a good time as well lol.

No way is it as bad as my friends celica on bags, i swear, we were driving and i would hit a bump and barely feel it and when i would look back his car would be bouncing up and down for about 2 or 3 seconds after he hits the bump, very funny. Just get a different setup, aftermarket shocks shouldn't void any warranty.
check with the dealer.
some state that any modifications instantly void the factory warranty on the car.
other manufacturers are more lenient and will do work on the car under warranty as long as any aftermarket parts did not contribute to whatever issue you are taking the car in for.

my local Honda dealer is really nice, they didn't care about my drop on the car, i bet next yr when i hopefully get the turbo they won't say much about that either, as long as I can get a new oil pan so that i can put the stock one back on if i should ever want to trade it back in or something bad really happens that i need to take the car back in. Oh yea, did i mention my brother is the Sales Manager there?

Hi Guys, took the advice to add some weight... put 120 lbs in the back (Salt) ... helped the bounce but seems to slow me down some and the rear dropped about 1 inch... took 40 lbs out and it seems to run better acceleration wise but a little of the bounce/firmness is back
what does weight making the ride less bouncy and softer tell me ? Could I duplicate this with firmer shocks ... guess I'm a little confused b/c i thought the springs would get stiffer the more they are compressed ? Lower=stiffer ?
jttegx is right, add more weight in the trunk, that will ease the bounce.
You can also keep your gas tank full. $$
I put on aftermarket shocks, KYB, they calmed the bounce, or really eliminated it. KYB offers GR2 and AGX for the Honda civic, but, I dont know if they have a version to fit civic 2005.

Weight is like a damper. Your complaint is the shocks react too fast (hence rough ride), making them push harder slows them down. Nothing will make it softer, I suggest letting the car break itself in.

My Tein SS coilovers gave me the best ride i've felt from my car, STOCK, then i went with NEUSPEED SPRINGS W/ TOKICO BLUES and now the TEIN SS. I have my damper set on 12, so its kinda soft.

Can you tell me how both of those setups compare to stock ? IE Bounce, Harshness, etc. What advatages and disadvatages do those 2 setups have over stock ?
thank you very much

Well with stock i had stock hubs and tires, which was a smooth ride since it was made for the car. I then went with different wheels and the ride became less comfortable and you could feel the road and bumps more. I lowered it on Neuspeed Springs and Tokico blues and the ride improved from just the tires and stock suspension. But whenever i installed the Tein SS's it was like night and day, i immediatly felt a difference driving, since then i have the setting at like 12-14 depending on what i'm doing. The ride is very nice and its not bouncy, the car evens out fast and the cornering has improved too, i also went with a front strut bar, but that doesn't seem to do ALOT. I was expecting much from it. I would highly recommend the Tein SS cause (1) You are able to adjust your ride height, i currently have my front lowered down to about 4 threads left, and there is no gap in the front, i have the rears with about 13 threads left, only because my stereo weighs the rear down alot. (2)The ride is alot better, you can adjust the stiffness you want (3) Tein is a great brand and you can't go wrong with them
