Question Just Installed HO Alternator, Voltage reg. Prob??

So I installed a 170A alternator today that the factory voltage regulator just snaps right into. When at idle loaded down (all accs on) my voltage will go to 10.9 sometimes. Same when idleing voltage stays at 10.9 loaded and about 11.5-12.7 at idle not loaded.
When on the gas however it stays constant at 13.7 till I let off the gas. this concerns me. I know the Alternator is working or it would not make the voltage jump back up when the throttle is depresed. Is this normal?? Never had a HO alternator installed before. Said to wire it from b+ terminal (+12v) to positive side of battery. Thinkin that maybe it is the load regulator in the ecu. Any insite would be appreciated.

At 500-750 RPM, it may not be capable of producing enough voltage until the revs come up.

guess so but also it is supposed to put out 75amps at idle which is the max output for our stockers. Wonder if it just does not have to try as hard or something...less effort = less volts?? I have a degree in EE but al learning about cars and what not so I am trying to understand why it is doing this

Electric load distribution.

The cars voltage regulator turns off the alternator under low or no load at not idle to conserve energy.

This is normal and is the same on stock cars, just hook up a voltage gauge and you will notice that when the car is not under load and at idle, the voltage will drop. Meaning the alternator will shut down.

check out www.caraudio.com

theres many members there with exp. with alternators. idk if its normal or not cause ive never had an HO alt before. but my factory 70amp alt shows me 14.9v once at start up. 13's v after warm up and while driving. then sometimes in the 12's after driving for few minutes with my audio system on but not blaring loud.

i always thought the volts should be going down as the acceleration gets higher?

Got it from a place in texas...am out of state for training but I can let you know where exactly as soon as I get back on Friday. Makes the stereo MUCH stronger....esp. noticeable at night....I got 1000watts running and no head light dim anymore...not ever a little. No noticeable engine performance increase tho...sorry
