Mysterious smoke from the column...

Today I was driving my '01, and for some reason smoke started to come from the turn signal arm/column area. For some reason I turned the lights off, and it seemed to then stop, but that may be a coencodent.

There are no check engine lights, and everything still works.

Any idea as to what burnt up?

Your wire for your headlights is fried. There's a recall on the headlight switch assembly. take it to the dealer and they'll fix it. After my fix that wire still frys. You can pop the cover and see the fried wire for yourself.

So is there really anything wrong with having this wire fried? I mean everything still works.

If a wire burns out, that's it, it's done. Hence the reason why it only smoked for about 5 seconds. Do you really think it's constantly burning and smoking everytime I drive the car, .

.....And then the bare positive exposed wire that melted touches a part of your METAL engine bay (which is basically like touching two ends of a battery together).... gets grounded... short circuit.. BLAM. FIRE.

I think this was R1style's point.
