Hissing Noise?
Hissing Noise?
I noticed yesterday that after my car has been running for around 10 min. there is a hissing noise when i turn the wheel. Im thinking it has sumthing to do with the power steering, but im not sure im gonna take it to the shop on tuesday. If anybody has any idea what this might be or if they wanna give me any advice, like should I drive it or not, I would really appreciate it.

Is it abnormally loud? Are you having any sort of mechanical trouble? My power steering normally makes a slight hissing noise when I turn the wheel. I can hear it when the radio is off and I have the window down. I hope it turns out to be nothing.

sounds like a fluid leak to me. If it is getting louder, then the pump has lost alot of its lubrication and will seize up soon.
mine's doing the same thing but i've taken off my power steering pump ( really ****ing easy to do you just need a 12 mm wrench :P ) I have found that this is actually an internal problem such as my water pump because my temperature is also around 1/2 to the H. take off your pump and start your car. I had a man come up to my car and tell me to fix my power steering pump. I told him that it wasn't the pump and he flipped out acting like he knew everything. luckily i still had the wrench and i owned him on the spot (not with the wrench lol).
Kinda on the same subject, does anyone know of anyway to reduce the amount of assist that the PS applies without just pulling it?
Our steering is rather numb and lightly weighted when it comes down to it, even with sticky tires and full suspension and bushings etc. I think it's just that the steering is overboosted so that old ladies can get into parking spots but I'd be willing to lose some assist in the name of feel.
