Cai

hey i just installed a generic CAI, i like it but my engine shakes the whole car, is it just because I have a generic strut tower brace bar, or is it the FI ECU not use to all the air?

the engine started shaking after you put the CAI on? that doesn't make any sense unless its rubbing on your strut tower bar. check to see if the cai is touching the strut bar. mine did when I had mine. I took it off. after I do my Y8 swap, I'll be able to put it back on though. carb. style sucks ***!!!!

My generic strut bar was viberating against my intake making a horrific noise. I took it off and ordered a neuspeed bar.

its the best flowing oem IM that honda has made so far(for d-series). and its just a better design than our plastic carb. style IM's which suck ***. and when you put the y8 on there, you get a return line capability. I'm told you can just poke a hole in the fpr to "trick" the ecu. then you just run a return line and hook up the y8 fpr. when you do that, you get to use an FMU to add fuel when boosting. this is a lot cheaper than upgrading the entire fuel system to get more pressure out of it. you can throw in an in-line booster pump too if you run more than 7psi I think???? but with that setup, and knowing that timing doesn't have to be retarded until you get to 7psi...you can safely run 6psi. which is my plan. and then I'm leaving it just like that.

oh, you asked where I got the y8 IM. they are all over ebay man. pretty cheap too. I'm going to do a DIY for it when I do it. with pictures and everything. I think some people will appreciate that on here.

I would think so. its way better than our carb style. so I think it would help no matter what setup you had.

carborator style. the tb is sticking straight up instead of sideways.

hey guys, I won't be doing the DIY for the y8 IM swap. I traded my civic for an 02 rsx type S today.....totally stock with 100K mile warranty. If anyone wants to buy a Y8 IM, I have 3. one with all sensors and plugs for $100. the other two for $30 each. plus shipping of course. and please don't move this to the for sale forum, I'm just throwing it out there.

ur going to have to modify it to cause the y8 IM TB is sideways while our stock one is vertical.

sorry for the noob questions but is it difficult to modify or is it fairly easy? i'm seriously considering trying this one because it doesn't seem very expensive and i'm kinda tight on cash at the moment.

modifying the IM or the v2? the IM I believe you have to drill out some of the holes bigger and then splice the plugs for the sensors in and then if ur not going to use a returnline, close off the returnline by either pinching the rubber hose over or putting a screw/bolt in the end and hose clamp that. the v2 you'll have to cut the part that turns down onto the stock IM so it will be sideways for the y8. I suggest unless you are pretty handy with fabbing/modifying things and know what you are doing, don't try this. you could really mess something up.

i've got pretty good mechanical skills. the IM doesn't seem like anything i can't handle but modifying the v2's gonna be a bitch. once i cut the intake i'll have to relocate my IAT sensor. is this mod better for boosted cars or will i notice any N/A gains?

good for both. yeah, thats not too bad though. just extending wires. you can actually put it in the rubber ring between the IM and the intake. just leave enough space and drill a hole in the rubber then push it through. that's what I did for my turbo. that will save you from drilling holes in the tube.

haha, yeah. don't want to do a DIY that results in a F'up. that'd be silly.
