I was reading on the post about the d17 vtec and came across the term 3 stage vtec. It was said, in the thread, that it was found only in Japan and the UK and on the d15b engine. However, Honda Philippines claims that its 1.6 honda civic uses the 3 stage vtec technology (called here as vtec 3) and that it enables the car to produce 130hp. I asked honda about it and they emailed back saying that the civic here has the vtec 3. I am not realy sure if honda is lying or not.... What do u think?

We D17's have VTEC-E with only two cam lobes on the intake. (lame)

How is it weak when it has the best of both worlds...meaning it uses VTEC-E to save gas and a regular VTEC high lift cam profile to make power. So it saves gas and makes crazy power for its displacement. The D15B makes like 130hp and is capable of gas mileage equal to a 1.3 Liter. Although I doubt anyone gets that kind of gas mileage.

it's made for fuel economy, not power. none of the top honda engines use it. the closest would be the k20a3 and I would hardly consider that a top honda engine.
