newbie to suspension mods

hey, alright, im trying to plan out mods im gonna do to my Civic... the only prob is that i am clueless when it comes to suspension.. what are all the benefits of upgrading to aftermarket suspension? the civics come with front and rear stabalizer bars, what do they do? could someone just like suggest a route to take as far as moding the suspension? BTW, im planning to get 17" wheels, if that matters.. thanks

I am in the same position. I would like to get bigger wheels and larger, fatter tires, but I do not want to lower the car at all (I like my ground clearance).

I would like to minimize the "floaty, bouncy" feel of the rear end, and hopefully eliminate the "drifty" feel of the steering.
