weird noise. Suspecting exhaust system. Need help!!!

I have a manual. Whenever i accelerate over 3000 rpm in any gear and i press the clutch pedal, i hear a strange noise as if something is loose in the engine. Here's the details: When i press the clutch pedal, the engine accelerates a little bit (which is normal). As that little acceleration occurs the noise comes in and then goes away as the engine revs down. It's a high pitch noise. Don't know for sure if it's coming from the engine though it seems so. I'm suspecting that something is loose in the exhaust system (manifold perhaps or exhaust pipe support). Anyone could tell me how a loose exaust manifold or pipe sound? Or anyone having the same problem?

At first i thought it was a leak in the exhaust pipe. Then i ruled out this idea as a leaky pipe would cause a constant noise, not just when changing gears.

^^^ like he said...

also did you install header and or exhaust? I had the same issue before and i found that when I replaced my header there's this 1" ring in between the header and the downpiped that causes the noise like it's coming from the inside of the car... but yeah man more info... we'll be more than happy to help you out...

same **** is still goin on with my car too. I hear a annoying rattle and it pisses me off when i get out of first and hear it. I took off my exhuast 2 times and put it back on and made sure everything was tight and it still made the rattle. Altough i did talk to crew chief and he said he fixed the sound by gettin a hammer and hittin his heatshield away from the dp/header, so i am goin to try that and see if it works.

I'll second the throw out bearing suggestion. My car makes the same noise, and I'd bet money that's what it is.
