OMG almost phuked up LARGE !

Alright, I have no clue why this happened, and I know that I should check it out to make sure nothing is wrong... now here is the story.

I came out today "-24c last night + crazy snow" and started up the car let it warm up a bit. First thing I noticed was that the check engine light came on ( which sometimes happens with a small tranny problem) so really thought nothing of it. So I just put the car into drive and it didnt go forward. I thought my tranny blew, so I give it a little extra gas and well, I was stuck to the ground. The sound that it makes to rip a car off ice is not music to my ears. But it doesn't stop there, I go forward and press the brake when I come up to the end of my drive way ( which goes down hill ) and IT DIDNT STOP ! My BRAKE DID NOT WORK ! They didnt have any power at all, I pulled my hand brake like a mad man and pull a 180 off the driveway. Thank god there were no cars or anything there during the time. I drove it around to try to find out what was wrong, and finally they started to give in and start working agian.

Does anyone know what happened ?! I dont want this to even happen again as it is a life threatening situation.

Oh and just a little on the tranny situation, when the check engine light comes on, it doesn't want to change gears not rev up above 4k. It does some funny reving and gear changing stuff, but as soon as I turn the car on and off, check engine light is still there, but tranny is working fine.

Anyways, give me a shout

no, not that stupid. I know how that kills the tranny. But the tranny thing fixes it self, comes on only like once in a blue moon, and mostly after severe weather. I'm thinking its just a plug or something that it getting wet and shorting or something, but I'm not going to pay Honda for a code read.

Sounds like your fluids either got frozen or not getting enough through the tube.

Happened to me. Tires frozen to ground and calipers frozen to disc. Everytime I reseased the brake I got a loud sound like they were stuck. You just gotta drive slow and keep pressing brakes until they melt.

Hmm, definitely strange. I've parked my car outside overnight in frigid weather like we've had lately and never have I had frozen brakes. Have you checked your brake fluid level?

i've also noticed the tranny problem with auto. After reversing and putting in drive, it would jump forward with a clunk noise when it's cold.

o wow. i was just gonna post up about this cuz it happened to me today.

i have been driving my maxima beater for the last 2 weeks adn the civic was just chillin there. well, today my mom needed the maxima for some BS and i had to take my civic ot school. i start the bitch up, let it warm up a little and i put it into Drive and it slams into Drive like never before so i give it some gas and it doesnt go anywhere..... like it was in nuetral. i got a little scared.

i then put it in reverse and the tranny hooked up and i roll back a little. then i put it back into D and it went in there a bit roughly but everything was fine.

I'm asusming that the tranny fluid might have gotten a little frozen up and wouldnt let the tranny hook up?

blah, stupid autos. Once mine fails to the amount of no return, 5spd swap
It should cost too much if you can get a whole D17 block for $600 including tranny, now labour is going to be something...

I have the exact same problem when its cold, to add to it before the fluid warms up the car granny shifts, 1 gear, hit 3.5k tranny disenguages, revs high like in neutral, then swaps to 2nd.. I hate my auto, I was forced to get once since i saved on getting one rrrriiiggghhhttt, it'll be costing me more in the long run.

No i did not wash my car the day before. I left it in a snow bank that might have contributed to the ice forming between the caliper + rotor.

water in your system bro, get that checked, you could also have air in the system as well, when you have water in the system it can freeze and act like a block which would not allow the fluid to get to the calipers then it warmed up then it started working cuz the water melted. MO only
