My 04 Civic EX Coupe needs your help.
Hello everyone!
I need help on getting my Civic back to running. First, let me tell you my battery output level is extremely low. Two weeks back, I installed the Sun HVS. Three days later, I found my battery dead. I jump started my car three times through the week. I wanted to remove the HVS but the weather was really cold outside, then the blizzard hit. My parking space is on the ground level under the first floor building balcony, so my Civic wasn't cover by snow, just area around. This morning, I was getting ready to jump start my Civic. I lift the hood up and saw most of stuffs are cover under snow. I brush some of the snow off the battery, ECU box, valve cover, intake and the manifold. but there is still alot of snow in there. My car alarm is down. What can I do? Will I short circuit anything or get electricuted if I try to jump start my car with snow still inside. I want to get my car moving, so i can get a charger from Autozone. I really appreciate your help right now. Thanks.

Sounds like your battery doesn't like that much cold. It should be ok to jumpstart the car if the battery is NOT frozen. Then let it run a while before you drive off.
I'd try charging the battery at least overnight, and if it's that cold, maybe a trickle charge at night wouldn't hurt. Sounds like you are another candidate for an Optima battery.

I don't believe this could happen too but it did.
I try jump start the car awhile ago, no luck. Something else might be frozen besides the battery. I will try to get a charger tommorrow. I'm just worry something get short out, like the headlight plug when snow melt or the ground wire connections. Is it ok to have H2O in the engine bay?

i would guess that its not good and you should get as much of it out as you can. take a brush or something and just replace that battery that you have had to jumpstart over and over. its like 50 bucks or something like that from honda and it takes 30 seconds to change.
fyi get the one from honda or make sure you get the right one. mine died a while ago so i went to get a new one and 2 batterys latter i just went to honda due to i got the wrong size the first time and the second time the termonals where not in the right place. they where closest to bumper not the fire wall so 1. hood would not close 2. wires would not reach
also it could be a starter problem if you just keep hearing a tick tick tick i belive and lights and stuff work. i was told to hit it with a hammer

I got what I could but still plenty in there.

And this is my packing space, somehow the snow got blown all the way up the engine bay.

My Civic is six months old, no more than a thousand miles. What could be the main cause of dead or used up battery. I have silverstar low beam, hardcore cooling grounding kit that has a ground cable connect to the alternator ground and my new sun hvs gt which continuously blinking in green even when the car is off. My city commute to work is 4 miles to and back with headlight on. Is it just not enough time and distance for the car battery to do any recharging. I think the HVS has a lot to do to deplete the charge in the battery. I definitely want to keep the silverstar. Does anyone think the ground kit has a negative effect as well? Also, will the dealer cover the cost of replacement? Thanks.

If my only option is to replace the battery with money out of my pocket, then the optima yellow top is what my Civic needs.

Damn! That car is frozen!! Even the exhaust pipe. It won't start until you open the exhaust pipe, and make sure there is no snow in the intake. It looks like it got packed in pretty bad. I've never seen this before. I'd suggest you get a block heater installed, and an optima yellow top. That should keep you running through any winter.

Oh, and that's no insurance claim. It's an inconvenience. Next time you park during a storm or blizard, put some kind of cap on your exhaust pipe. And do the block heater and battery. Sounds like you just need to beef up your car for severe conditions. This is common in germany as well. It could get so cold that we had to light a small fire under the oilpan of the diesel we had just to thaw it enough to turn over. Oh man. And everyone had extreme duty batteries. No biggie. Civics don't come that way stock.

Hey I have the hvs for 6 months now with an optima yellow battery. No problems at all even in -9F weather, so I think it's the battery you have. The hvs does help and actually should extend battery life if it's working properly. I don't know if yours got damaged or something, but everything should be water proof. Just clean out the exhaust pipe. I'm betting your battery is just frozen tho that's why it won't start. I can start mine first time every time with only 3 cranks and vroom.

Good news, this morning I took a look under the hood and saw much less snow in there, so I grabbed my fully charged power pack for a jump. I wasn't hoping much because last time it was difficult for the engine to crank but luckily the engine start up today. I let it idle till the engine warm up then drove around for half an hour. Right now the car battery is charging with a 10Amp charger lended by a good neighbor. I will have to wait and see if this battery is still good and be able to hold a charge.
