Crack in Windshield / Warranty?

On the way to work today, a huge pebble / boulder hit my windshield and made a huge crack through it. If it's at 04' civic and 10000 miles on it, is there any way it can be covered through warranty? Any suggestions?

Thats what happened to me, are the windshields bad quality? My Gen6 civic has a chip and it didn't create a huge crack. Western New York isn't the best for this stuff with all the salt / bad roads. Aren't small chips / knicks supposed to be self contained? Not spread across the whole windshield creating a huge crack? Oh well. I don't want to have my insurance take care of it because it is a 500$ deductible i believe. I have to call them.

You're probably going to have to pay for it.
About 6 months ago I walked out from work to find my windshield cracked. It started from the bottom passenger side and snaked towards the center of the window. When I took it to Honda, they told me if there is a chip anywhere along the crack (from an impact, like a pebble) then it ISN'T covered under warranty. I watched the Manager take a ball point pen and run it along the entire crack for 15 minutes or so, didn't find anything, and still had to haggle over the phone for a few days before they covered it as "good will". The cheapest Honda windshield replacement I found was $275 installed. I agree these windshields seem low quality, I never cracked a windshield on any of my other cars.

that is a crappy price. I paid $175 installed for my new windshield. You basically need to call every shop in town and get price quotes, thats what I did, it took me 4 hours but found the cheap one. And they did a bad *** job too.

The warranty doesn't cover "rock damage" unless you're lucky. My radiator was leaking and the dealer found that it was caused by rock damage (which the warranty does not cover). My family is a regular customer to that dealer and we know them well so they fixed it anyway at no charge.
The thing with a little chip on your windshied turning into a huge crack is pretty common. It gets that way because of the vibration of your car when you drive.

going to get it fixed

I'm going to get it fixed on saturday. I guess Progressive (the worst insurance company ever) covers it. I have full glass coverage. Hopefully it won't make my rates go even higher.

Check with your insurance company. For some states the insurance companies must replace a cracked windshield by law. My brother cracked his windshield on the highway and his insurance paid for it 100%.

I live in Florida btw.

Any time you file a claim, your rates go up. So they will go up if you file this as a claim.

You'll probably have to cover it. My dad covered the one that broke on the black car. He left it alone for a week and a half and when he came back it went from a quarter sized ding to 3/4 of the bottom windshield, maybe it was because it was right over the heater which we used because it was cold.

They're actually designed to do that. It helps transfer the energy outward to the sides, top and bottom so that the glass doesn't shatter.

Oh you're lucky your insurance will cover it...
