B20Z swap
B20Z swap
I've searched on this category, and there wasn't a lot of results. My question is whether or not the B20Z can be swapped into a 2001 Civic. I say 2001 only because the B20Z was produced and used in the 2001 CR-V.
Here are the specs:
B20Z 2.0L 16V DOHC PGM-FI 143tq@4500rpm 98-01 CR-V
Seeing as how this engine was produced the same year as the 2001 Civic, I would assume that swapping this engine into a 2k1 Civic would be legal. I've talked to a mechanic and he says that emissions would pass, but he's not too sure whether or not this engine is legal when swapped in.
If it's a legal swap, then those with 2k1 Civics would have another option; and I believe this engine in a civic would RAPE!

Dude it's 143tq @4300 RPM. And ask anyone that has swapped a b20 into their hatch or civic...they love the power at their foot. The point of the motor is for the tq. Besides that, it's a B series engine, and we KNOW they make crap loads of parts for them. Also if and when you did strap on a turbo, it would be even more rape. 143tq @4300RPM >> d17 any day. Not only that, the engine is a pricewise alternative to the K20. Of course we would all love to run K20's in our ride, but the cost is super high. I'm not exactly sure how much it would cost to get a b20, but I'm pretty sure it'll be less than the k20.
As for no motor mounts for a b-series, guess we'll just have to get someone to custom fab. I'm sure if you let someone like HAS know what you were trying to do, they would ship some custom ones right out to you for a hefty price, but oh well.
I was just asking the question to open up more doors for us Civic owners.

Same make/model as in engine codes? Because ppl in cali swap in GSR or LS motors into their hatchbacks all day long (not to mention H22 which is a Lude engine). The b20 was produced by honda in 2001 for the CR-V. The 2k1 Civic was produced the same year with a d17. SO Im guessing they are the same year right? Also, the engines are both produced by Honda.
Not engine codes.
Okay heres an example: I have an 88 nissan maxima VG30E
I could swap it for a 2005 VQ35DE. The VQ is the engine in the new maximas. so that would be legal. Now if I swapped it for a QR25DE that would be illegal. Thats the engine out of the sentra.
In cali it would have to be an engine that came from the factory for that cars model.
Just because its illegal dosen't mean people don't do it. Besides how many cops know the difference between a H22,B16,and there butts?

it makes much more torque than any B series engine stock, that's why people love it and the K20a3 makes much more torque than any B series engine and more hp than any stock B20.
too much custom work is involved. for probably the same price or less, I'd kick your *** in a race with a k20a3 vs. your b20z. K's have much more potential, so if you want to go B, then I suppose you'll be seeing my tail lights more often
sounds like a good idea. makes more power and tourque to the ground than the d17 if it would actually fit. but for the extra 30 hp and tourque i dont think its with it imo. when you can do a k20a swap. im sure it would be cheaper, but your overall gains wouldnt be nearly worth the custom work and modiification it would take.
umm....i'm just wondering...i thought the b20s had no vtec...why would you want to swap a b series motor that has no top end?...yeah it has a lot of torque...my friend has one and he has no top end because there is no vtec
there is no vtec right?
there is no vtec right?
I don't believe b20's have vtec ... but you could modify a vtec b series head and stick it on there ...
but then again ... why?? ... k20.
EXACTLY my point

We need more swap options for our cars. Right now there is way too much demand for the k20 engines which is driving up costs. If there are more engine options available to swap into our 7thgens then that will drive down the demand for k20's and consequently drive down the cost.

yeah, b series motors wont fit in our cars and are going to be dinosaurs soon. Have you noticed everything is turning to k series? Anyway, good idea/bad idea
good idea, cheap easy hp option of doing b20/vtec
bad idea, no mounts/linkage, parts period....cost an assload more than a kseries swap

yea its doable, but it will take some work. im pretty sure the d17 mounts are different from the d16's of earlier generation civics, so you may need custom mounts. you'll also need a new trans, axles, etc, cuzz tha b20 stuff aint compatable. And ya... that motor does kik a$$
