When people make custom pods and enclosures for their cars...
What are they making it out of and how do they mold it?

here is another:
First step was to tape off the work area.

This is the enclosure after a couple layers of fiberglass resin and cloth.

After applying about four layers of fiberglass then remove it from the trunk and added a few more layers to ensure that it was stong enough.

This is the mounting ring for the Sub.

Here's the fleece forming the front side of the Enclosure.

After applying a few more layers over the fleece, spread body filler over the entire surface.

Here you can see the sound deadner that sprayed on the inside.

Final product.

that's exactly how i built mine. Bondo's like this cream that you put hardener in and it hardens up very quickly. It sands down very smooth. It's typically used for auto body repair.
And Bondo-Glass is a mixture of bondo with fiberglass strands in it for strength. It's kind of a way to make the whole process go faster because you don't need to lay down as many layers of fiberglass.. although I guess I would recommend more layers anyways just because it makes me feel better haha

Fiberglassing is a tough process to learn. I'd recommend you do several practice pieces before you attempt one inside the car. Also, it's a good idea to apply a wax or release agent on the tape, as some masking tape tends to stick to the glass. Also, bondo is a body filler. It is used to fill imperfections in the surface. I prefer dynalite in an ICE application, as it's a little thinner and smoother. Less work is better no?

One more suggestion I have is when applying the resin on the fleece (first layer) is that you pour the resin on as opposed to brushing it on as it saturates it quicker and better.
