I just wanted to get everyones opinions on this because I have been thinking turbo but after reading a few post on the K20's I've been thinking. I'll probley go with the K20a3 but I can still go with something better not sure though. Thanks

hey if you have the money, go K20 A2/A3 for sure. Even down the line you could go turbo on that engine. But if ur money is limited/you dont know nothing bout swaps. Go for the turbo. Assuming your 7thgen. You can check out the SF kit for our cars, or the TSI kit from turbokits.com. Dezod is coming out with one mid April 05. So basically do what you can afford.
if you go with the turbo, you wouldnt have to worry about toggling your ecm(ecu?), exhaust, relocating battery, o2 sensors, etc all that electrical junkie. with turbo, its just bolt on and prob relocate battery?

yeah I don't really have the money. It will probley take me a year (and about 5-6 mon. for turbo) but if it is better in the long run then I might go for the swap. But one other question is are the specs.
K20a- 200 HP type r
K20a3-160 HP SI
K20a2-210 HP type s
An idea I also thought of was would the 6 speed tranny from the type s work with any of the other K20's? It may not be worth it but it was just a thought that came in to my head.

k20a is 220hp JDM ITR engine
k20a3 is USDM SI/RSX base, 160hp
k20a2 is 02-04 USDM RSX-S, 200hp
new 05 type s engine is 210hp, i'm sure real hard to find right now.
k series 6 speed would work on a motor that normally doesn't have a 6 speed, but w/out other upgrades would be kind of a waste. IMO. of course, there are engines in that power class that come with a 6 speed (160hp Mini cooper s and 170hp Ford SVT Focus come to mind).

it seems to me that a swap is more easily taken care of after it's done than a turbo (tuned, upkeep, etc). but then again i have neither, this is just my observation...don't hate me turbo guys, i still like your cars

swapping a a3 is a waste IMO..........if u swap then go for the a2
turbo is faster than any swap, but in the end, it will cost you more than any swap.......trust me.

they are both great and either one you go with you will love. but heres my $.02 go with turbo. you can get a turbo kit for around 3k then build your engine for another 3k or so, and then have great numbers. with the swap its prolly gona be around 6k and you only have at the most 200hp. so you figure 6k for either one and i think youd put down more with the turbo... also a factor to consider (for me anyways) is that if u blow a D17 theyre cheap, another K20 would be a lot.

Why spend 4000-6000k on a turbo kit for the D17 when you're only gonna max out to around 250 whp before you have to tear it apart and do internals? I personally would much rather spend the same amount on a swap and have a much better baseline of power to build off of rather than the weak, tried and true sohc.

If you think (and you're right) that 250 is a lot in FWD what about that nut on the cover of Sport Compact a few months ago with the 455-HP vic? He said he could hardly make the car catch in first gear. Me personally, I don't care....I'd rather be all show and no go and have the plates to prove it: my license plates would be NOTFAST.

By the time I'm done modifying my civic, which will probably be years from now, I'd like to see 300-400 whp under my hood. 250 whp is not quite enough power and is not really worth the money spent to achieve it. The higher horsepower numbers will be easier to obtain with a K series and probably will end up costing just as much if not just a little more. Its just a better investment I think if you're serious about making some huge power.
