Just bought a Mazda 3 - 5 door!
Still got the 7thgen, its actually my wifes new car. This car is fun! Love the interior, sport package, the seats are sweet, disc brakes all around, 160 hp! I think the aftermarket industry is gonna have fun with this car, its got a lot of potential! I'll get picks tommorow hopefully when we pick it up!

Rep Power: 275 The 3 is a nice car. It was between that and the vic for me. To get a 3 with the bigger engine, anti-lock brakes, sunroof, which are standard in the EX brought the price up too much. The 5 door came with many of these standard, but the wife wanted a sedan. Anyway nice purchase IMO, the ones I testdrove were very nice.

Rep Power: 0 The interior looks just like my g/f Mazda 6 inside. I think the engine in the 3 is the base model enigne of the 6 but I'm not exactly sure. Very nice car, I love that damn orange color.

Its got big nice brakes, well protected calipers.(ABS wire needs to be protected better).
Multi-link independent rear suspension.
Rigid body and the car looks very strong from underneath; good pieces.
I'd spend a little bit extra (if it is actually more expensive) and get myself a Honda civic SI with the oem body kit. Racing seats, are great, excellent drivetrain (its in a different league than the 2.3 ford focus engine in the Mazda). Better chassis, excellent fit and finish. A lot of potential.
Nonetheless the new three is a nice little car.

Rep Power: 329 Hate to rain on your parade, but the 2.3 L engine found in the Mazda 3, yes is also found in the new focus, but was designed by Mazda. Ford has the luxury of using it's daughter companies' parts. This was also seen in the early to mid 90's escorts, and in the Ford Probe. All Mazda engines.
As far as the 3 being better than it's predecessor, in what way? It may have more options and refreshed styling, but my Mazdaspeed Protege would destroy the 3 in every performance related aspect.
