Horn wiring short blowing fuses
Horn wiring short blowing fuses
Hi, this is my first post, thanks for bearing with me. I recently bought my first Civic, a 2001 EX 4-dr, and I've discovered that it has a problem with the horn wiring.
The horn was apparently cut and removed some time in the vehicle's past and the wires were not taken care of well enough because every time the horn is triggered, it blows a fuse. It's the fuse that is also for the tail lights, so every time it blows (which is every time I lock the car), I can't shift out of park. Obviously this is getting annoying.
I've got 3 years of an Electrical Engineering degree under my belt, so I'm fairly confident I can fix this, but my question is, where the heck are the wires for the horn?

the horn is located inside the front bumper, on the driver side. you will have to remove the bumper to get to it. it's bolted onto the frame of the car itself, it's black and about 3 inches in diameter. maybe the wires are just shorted. best of luck, and post some more!
Alright, thanks a lot. I'll work on getting that bumper off tomorrow. I assume I'm looking for an orange wire as per the Vehicle Wiring Database, though it's probably wrapped.
Also picked up most of the parts for my sound system today.
I have to say I really like this car so far, and these forums just rock.

bumper isn't too tough to take off. there are a couple pop bolts in the wheel wells (i think maybe one screw), 4 pop bolts on the grill that are easily accessed under the hood (grill=that piece with the "H" on it), and then under neath the car there are about 6 pop bolts, i think 2 screws as well. take out all you can find, tug gently, and you should be good. make SURE to put a blanket on the ground or something though, you do NOT want to scratch up that nice bumper. this is the most crucial of all steps. breaking pop bolts or having extras will happen, but scratching a bumper is an expensive chore to fix.
